This is my first craftster contest--so here goes!

I chose to re-create my 1997 Magenta Jeep Wrangler, named "Princess Consuela" for this contest:

I started by sitting outside, and drawing a scaled drawing of her, then taking all of the appropriate measurements:

Side:

Front:

I then converted everything down, so that my jeep is a 1:8.5 scale, and I started cutting the felt.  Here are the sides and back:

Sides and back sewn together:

Grill and windshield: (Where you can really see that every single element is machine sewn on)

I'll stop boring you with "construction pics" and on to the "finished pics"... (next post)

I forgot to mention above...the entire thing is made out of felt, fiberfill, and a little foam in the tires.  Most of the accents are sewn on, with the exception of the writing on the tire cover and the doors, which are fabric paint, and the whole thing is machine sewn.

Here it is sitting on my car's hood, so you can see how well the colors matched!

Proof that it is indeed a Wrangler Smiley

A shot of the back, complete with an "Only in a Jeep" tire cover

And my favorite shot of it off-roading:

questions/comments/critiques welcome!!

Actually, Magenta was a standard color!!   Grin
It was made for only one year, 1997, then it was done away with. (I can't imagine why!  Cheesy)
When I saw that car for sale, I knew I had to have it, and yes, just because of the color!

Yeah, I've been called the Barney mobile (esp since my sister has a lime green jeep--together we do make up Barney), the eggplant mobile, purple streak, etc.  But I don't care!  I love that car!

Thanks for all of the positive comments so far guys!

Wow! Awesome idea!  Now I know I absolutely have to do that with my 99 honda prelude.  I've always wanted a model of it but they don't make the standard plastic model kits for my generation of 'lude!  I love how you put so much thought into making it and it turned out beautifully!

It's gonna be really hard to vote in this contest.

Wow, great job!  It's looks so much like the original.

I love the color of your jeep - what I wouldn't give for a vehicle that color but I think my family would disown me.  I'm the only female in a family with 3 males and so the family joke is that Mom wants every moving thing we own to have some pink on it - so far I've only succeeded in making that happen on the go-cart!

I love that so much, especially the action shot of your little squishy jeep taking on the rocky trails. Which I imagine to have some sort of persuasively-smooth voiceover about all the features of your bright pink vehicle. Hee.

Wow, she's amazing!  My favorite part is the hinge detail on the tailgate.  So perfect.

Now I've gotta have a huggable little model of my own jeep.

Actually--my mom was going to paint her Jeep yellow, so I was Princess Consuela, and her Jeep was to be named Banana Hammock.  And yes.  It's from Friends....lol.

And to everyone else--thank you for the kind comments!  I still love looking at my Jeep!  She resides in my sewing room right now.
