 Wink

I was just kind of curious, what is the reason cupcakes are so big in the craft world right now?  I just realized how many cupcake crafts I've seen here lately.

It's not complaint because who doesn't love cupcakes?

Just wondering if I was missing a bigger picture?

Oh, and now I hope to do a cupcake craft of my own sometime soon.   Grin

As a crafter and cupcake-lover I can't think of any particular reason for this...   I think there's just a general recognition that craft + cupcake = cute, yummy craft goods?

I'm very into Britney Spears' early work, before she sold out, so mostly her, um, finger painting and macaroni art.

It just happens to be a huge trend in baking and weddings right now (and has been for sometime) and it started trickling to everything else. If I had to pinpoint where it started, I'd say it was the popularity of Magnolia Bakery in NYC... all the sudden it was in tv shows and movies (most recently mentioned in Devil Wears Prada...)

ooh! love cupcakes! i dunno. they're so damn cute. and it's little single serving things. defiantely wedding season (just started!) i love when they have a groom's cake at work made of cupcakes. they're easy to make n decorate. but i'll agree it's mostly a seasonal thing. like those dresses that are everywehre now, jsut something sweet n refreshing after the drawn out winter.

Cupcakes are definately really popular. Their shape is pretty simple to reproduce in a bunch of various mediums which may also be why so many craftsters are using them as tasty subjects. I've also noticed strawberries and owls are prominent as well.

While we're on the topic of cupcakes, does anyone happen to know of any free tutorials/patterns online for knitted or crocheted cupcakes?  I'd love some links if you do Wink

There's two I know of:
Crocheted Cupcake Pincushion
Crocheted Cupcakes

Any more out there?
