I always make my own envelopes out of vintage wallpaper in bright colors and patterns with coordinating labels. I always get strange looks from the post office women and they always have problems getting the print off labels to stick! I sew the top shut with a whipstich and I've never had any problems with the packaging being opened at all.
When I lived in Paris I had a penpal here who always sent ME the oddest packages. I once recieved a pizza box in the mail with the letter written on the inside so i had to rip it apart to read it. Also, a can of soup with the letter written on the inside back of the label...he was a fun person!

Yeahh!!!  I want to be his penpail too!  I want to try stuff like this but I'm sort of chicken.
there should be a swap with something like this, you know like weird packages trough the mail, just to see what can we gat away with!

I wrote an address on a sock once and sealed it in clear packing tape, with plenty of postage...never recieved.  It was fun anyway.

Another time I sent some candy in a normal envelope to my cousin at camp...It arrived in a different envelope, with my envelope (and letter!) ripped in half inside it.  The candy was still in there though!

I've send a flip flop in the mail. Just addressed it and added postage- with a note on it of course. It got there just fine too!

I've also send empty 2 liter soda bottles. Slip some goodies inside, tape the lid on, tape an address label on and off it goes! Those have gotten there perfectly ok too.

I love sending mail. The postoffice knows me personally and seems to groan when I walk in.

I ALSO love sending mail. The post office is like some magical wonderful land where you can SEND things to other people. My post office is also this huge art-deco building built in the thirties as a WPA project and it has a very mystical feel to it.

I'd LOVE it if someone organized a cool-mail swap. I'd totally be game. I always send etsy and ebay packages in hand made envelopes and have gotten great feedback from it!  I'd love to even sell the envelopes I make some day....If anyone organizes it I've never swapped before but I know I want to and that I'll be quite good at it--so LET ME KNOW!
