kat, I love the rich color on those cards. Did you just happen to have great paper around, or do they have some beeswax or something on them? They look so rich.

Oh, and congrats on your first drawing.  Cheesy

Thanks all!  The inspiration for these cards is the work of this person on flickr:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/gaby_bieberle/

I don't know her at all, I just love her ATCs.  I wasn't trying to duplicate her style, but rather I was trying to imitate how she uses that yellow color on the background of many of her cards.

Hee!  I'm in awe of people who draw, since I don't, so I was unreasonably delighted by that little curve.

There's no beeswax or anything like that, it's just lots of layers.  The palm tree image and the column image are from napkins.  I glued the newspaper down, then tried to create that yellow color, then figured out where the napkin images were going to go.  Then I put whatever random bits I had laying around -- scraps of text, bits of printed collage paper, whatever -- under the napkins, so that it would look very layered.  Then I used gel medium to apply the napkins over that, then glazed and accented everything with brown, then added a final layer of gel medium.  Whew! It sounds like a lot of work when I spell it out like that, but it really wasn't at the time.  Smiley

Well, they look beautiful, and I'm quite sure they look even better in person when you can see all the layers better.

PS. Thanks for that link. I love the cards there!

Here are three more cards.

"Traveler's Notebook"

"The Susan" (that's the name I gave to the ship on the card -- it has a whole backstory about sinking into the heart of the sea, hence the anatomical heart in the background)

"The Hunter".  The bits that look white and speckled are gilded.

These are going to stay in my personal collection for a while -- they make me feel good.
