My Technicolor Dream Blanket :) (Many many pictures!!)

Hey,
I finally finished my final project for my weaving class, a blanket.   Iwas really happy with how it turned out... i avent finished knotting the ends but i was too excited that it was done to wait to take pictures!!! so here it is! (sorry for the extreme # pictures!!)

The cotton is called MonteCristo, i got it wholesale from a place called Henry's Attic in a natural shade which i then dyed.  I did get an A in the class and this blanket definitely carried my grade becuase the silk that I painted was terrrible!!! (its a weaving and fiber arts class, fiber arts really only being painting silk)

OMG!!! Wow, that is just beautiful.  Where did you take the class?  Is it a college class, adult ed?  I wish I could find something like that where I live.

The class was a college class I am an art major and it fulfilled a requirement for my degree and a several years long obsession with fiber in all of its forms It took pretty much forever, like maybe a month and 1/2.  All of the yarn is hand painted too, which was a lot of work but soo worth it because i got to get the colors just right.  I signed up for intermediate weaving for next semester and am sooooo excited about it.

I love your blanket it is just beautiful. What kind of loom did you use?

It was a counterbalance loom, not sure who it was made by, its an older loom from my weaving classroom... some of the looms we worked on were from the early 1900's when the school was first founded.  Though I don't think this loom is quite that old

I just found this thread (I usually don't frequent the fiber arts page) but I have to tell you that your blanket is Amazing. I love the variation in the blocks and it looks so expensive and rich (and most importantly soft ) I love it, fantastic job.

Thanks everyone!! I still use this blanket all the time, I love that it is big enough to cover my whole bed, I basically use it like a bedspread.  The colors always make me happy! I am starting to make a bag using the same color scheme (slightly simplified) and I am really excited about that project, I will post pictures of it when I finish it!

That is absolutely amazing.  Kudos for all the work it must have taken, I wish I had that kind of patience. 
Can I ask where you go to college?  I'm a junior in high school that is still undecided on a major, but I would lovelovelove to learn about this kind of thing.  One of my top major choices at the moment is fashion design/textile design, and I would love to know what schools offer hands on classes in textile arts.  Thank you!

I go to James Madison University.  There is a textiles concentration but not fashion design.  The concentration is more focused on weaving and silk painting, it doesn't really touch on fashion.

Thanks!! This is still one of my favorite things I have ever made! I use it all the time and the colors always make me happy!!  I wish I have more time to weave!! Now that I am in grad school I am so focused on my concentration (computer animation) that I haven't woven anything in nearly a year!! I even lent my loom out to my old high school because it definitely wasn't making the trip to Savannah with me!! I miss it a lot though!!
