... and of course, they're cupcakes. i was practicing last night because i want to make some polymer clay cupcake buttons for a purse i just crocheted. i could only find one person that makes them on etsy and she hasnt answered my message so i decided to attempt it myself, like a true craftster! anyway, here they are:

im especially proud of the mint chocolate chip cupcake on the far left. i don't like how the buttons came out but i think thats jsut cuz of the icing. i really like polymer clay though, i grabbed some more today on my way out of work (i work at michaels hehe), and i'm going to try making more buttons tonight. so how'd i do?

I have a few things to say:
   1. Before I go off on a tangent(did I spell this right....see, i go off on tangents), I LOVE THEM! They are truly adorable, and I love those buttons, though what are the other things? Besides the buttons
   2. You work at Michaels!!! So lucky, must be a blast
   3. I wish I had a Michaels in my area  Sad

LOL, thank you!!! i wasn't sure whether i liked them or not because i feel like such a beginner, the only other polymer clay i've ever done was when i taught the kids craft class at michael's and i didn't think i was all that good at it. plus i didn't know about cooking times and stuff so most of the kids' projects fell apart. =( but that own't happen now!

the other things are cupcakes that are probably going to turn into keychains or something, i just stuck the little wire thing in them so i could do SOMETHING with them, i just didn't know what. but now i totally want to make earrings and stuff too!! this is so addicting.

Those are cute!

If you want, you can make the buttons another way and possibly make them more like what you want.

Just make a regular cupcake as usual, but put in holes (all the way through... and go in from each side before finishing so they'll be smooth on the outsides) where you'd want them for buttons, and bake.  While the cupcake is still hot or really warm, cut it in half from the top with a sharp blade (preferably a long blade so there wouldn't be any lip on the blade to get in the way).  Voila!... 2 buttons from each cupcake.
EDITED TO ADD:  You can also re-heat an already baked cupcake or other polymer item just so it's hot enough to cut too.

(You could also drill the holes after baking and cutting the cupcakes; polymer clay is actually pretty soft and easy to drill.  Use either a drill bit right in a regular drill or a Dremel, or just make a clay handle around a drill bit (and bake) and "screw" the bit through the baked clay by hand ...you can start with a tiny mark made by a pin or even the tip of the bit itself as a pilot hole if you want to make sure the bit won't slip at all at first.)
