I thought I better show off my Hawkeye! I added a felt patch to the front with our ivy leaf logo on it. I really love it and have been wearing it around all over!
*edited to take out a link to the free patch tutorial per admin request.

I had a look at the pattern on your site -- is there something that goes inside the brim to stiffen it? I only get to a city on rare occasion, so would like to know if there's anything other than the yarn required for this project.

Nope, there's no insert for the brim. It's knit at a smaller gauge and that, combined with the double thickness created by the short row technique it holds shape really well!

All done (except weaving in the cast on tail)!!!! The pattern was superb and knit up flawlessly.
I used hand dyed cotton yarn I got on ebay ages ago. I got creative with my gauge because I had my heart on using this yarn. I had to go down to size 2 1/2 and 3 to get a good fit. I would normally wear a generous medium or large. With the smaller needles I cast on for a size small, knit the crown up to the large measurement, used the medium cast on amount for the brim and added 2 extra short rows just to made it a tad longer. I'm really happy with the final result! I still need to block it then maybe a action shot...
I look forward to seeing your future designs

It looks great! I love it how you altered the pattern to make it your own, and I love the color of that cotton! I am so glad that you found the pattern easy to understand.
I hope we do get to see an action shot!

I was so excited to start this project. I bought yarn and pattern last week and finally sat down to knit yesterday. My husband was actually excited about me knitting this hat for him, which was totally cool because I have never knit for him before, so I decided to knit his before I did mine. My gauge was spot on so I decided to jump right in. The pattern was so easy to follow and the hat knit up really fast. I was able to finish it last night and I let it block over night. I was so excited about the hat that when I woke up this morning I ran to get it and made my husband try it on before he had even gotten out of bed.
Now if anyone else is interested in knitting this fabulous hat pattern, I only have one piece of advise that I can give you.
Measure your husband's head BEFORE you knit the hat.
Version two coming soon.
I do have to say, Alice and Grace, this is a really great pattern and it's super easy to knit. Good thing because I have two more to go, his again and mine.
ETA: May 14, 2007
Take Two.
Success! I frogged the first hat and knit the medium size this time. I was a little afraid that it would end up looking wonky because my stitches were a little uneven from knitting with the kinky frogged yarn, but it turned out okay after blocking.
