is anyone interested in making a fairy house this summer/spring?

here is the site that inspired me:

http://www.fairywoodland.com/gallery.php

mine will be similar to a doll house but with natural found materials!  i will be collecting stones and wood but also other natural objects that would fit in (sea glass, shells, dried nuts, etc.).  i will be making and swapping/trading for small handmade items that could be rugs, curtains, etc.  i want things to be natural, but also colorful and intricate.  i’d love to bounce ideas off someone else!

LOVE this idea!
I want to make a fairy house to put out in my garden...and I want to make some tiny faux doors and windows to stick on the bases of some trees in my yard.

oh, wow!  great ideas.  i've been out in the garden all day, and our shrubbery definately needs something like this.  perhaps it could overwinter indoors tho.

i also think that it would be amazing to do in all natural/found materials (of course that's what the fairies would do! Wink.

The link devilninny posted has some great fairy houses.  I love the one that is made out of books...there are more pictures that show that the front door really opens.  I'd love that in my bookshelf!

oh man me and my little brother totally spent like a month one summer building a really elaborate "ewok village" in a tree behind our house that looked just like this.

i really recommend large leaves, monkey grass, and vines to use for making walls.  You can tie twigs together to make a sort of flat raft-like shape and use those as walls, or use leaves off of an umbrella tree if there is any landscaping near you that has them.

i think for a fairy house it would also be cute to have a few 'human' items used in funny ways, like buttons for a steppingstone path, or a striped pencil as a lightpole.

Oh yes that would be cute to see human items re-purposed to fairy uses.  Do you have any pictures of your Ewok village?  My son loves The Hobbit so I thought a little Hobbit hole would be fun to have out in the garden too.

i wish we had pictures of it, we did it when we were like 12 and 7, though, so we would never have thought of that.

i DID, however, see a backyard with a life-size hobbit hole for kids to play in on HGTV, and it looked very cool. I have tried to find it online, but can't seem to do so... I think the guy made his own stones out of concrete?!?  crazy.

i could never do that, but maybe on a tiny scale that would be doable...a little garden decoration fairy house!

I used to do this all the time when I was little. But I would make the house of of already present surroundings. Usually wedging sticks between two existing trees and covering them with leaves to make a roof, an acorn shell chair, etc. I had no idea other people did this. Let alone adults! Yay!

I've been interested in this idea ever since I came across it here on WikiHow (which was about 3 months ago). I don't know if I can find the time or patience to make one, unfortunately, though I have heard of a few awesome ideas, such as growing a mini Bonsai tree to decorate outside of the house.
Here are some other ideas I've come across:
Here, on post #8, is a fae house someone made. Here, on post #16 is another. (I hope you guys can see em!!! Roll Eyes)

I use to make fairy houses as a wee one...well, more like faerie shelters, for them to keep out of the rain and such.  I have an extensive rock and shell collection (I'm a total rock hound), and I'd find ways to make lil caves and hidey holes and such outside in the old wagon wheel flower garden, my Dad often helped ^_^
So whenever I get moved, I'll definately start on one...though it won't be anywhere as nice or extravagant as the ones on that site.

I was just thinking about this again! There were all sorts of great building materials strewn about my yard after a recent storm....so I have a nice big pile of bark and sticks to play with. I've been making fairy furniture and am working on a tutorial, but it's takes longer to get all the pictures taken as I build. Has anyone got any houses or fairy things done?

that's really cute!  I had forgotten about this craft a long because at the time I didn't have a yard, but now I rent a room in a townhouse with four random people.  Apparently every group of people that lives here is really hodge-podge and just sort of comes and goes. I have a few months left before I move out, and was thinking:  How neat would it be to hide a little fairy house in the yard and wait for someone to find it?  Can you imagine?  If I found a mysterious fairy house I'd probably think it was real. I'm so putting one somewhere around here. They'll probably never know who did it.

Okay so I tried doing this lastnight but my puter froze! (@#!*) So last summer I had my hubby pull out a stump that was in our wooded area. This is what we turned it into!! Everything we used besides the screws to afix the awning is everything we got from our yard... Moss and all. The oyster shells are what we found in the creek down the road. We planted hens and chicks in the deep parts of the log and the stump was completely hollow. There were spiders and frogs in there all the time. There is a twig to the right of the door that had a groove in it, so it was a pixie slide. There is another door to the right of that. We used an oyster shell... and there are crumbled oyster shells on the pathway, so it is rather an faerie apartment complex. Up top there is a garden center where I took an old glass ball and a twig and we made that a street light. The faeries put glow bugs in it at night to light up the park, complete with an oyster bench and snail shell pillows.

I just found this craftalong, and got excited because my first and so far only posted project falls into it!
I made this last Christmas, but joined Craftster about a month and a half ago and so posted it fair(l)y recently, so maybe it half-counts? Some of the items are store-bought, but many are recycled or found (coconuts, bamboo, rocks, sticks, others) and almost all are natural.

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=262740.msg2946961#msg2946961

I'm thinking of making another one, if I get some time sometime soon. Very cute door Fosca and awesome house Malibukasey!
