I'm posting this several places on craftster, because I need a response ASAP.

In ReadyMade Issue #9 (last xmas' issue), there was a recipe for home-made kahlua. Of course, I go to *make* the kahlua (for xmas gifts) and I cannot find my mag anywhere. I know it uses: vodka; vanilla; sugar; coffee (either ground or beans, I'm planning on using beans). But for the life of me I can't remember the proportions?

If anyone could help out, I'd be grateful. You can post it or PM me if you prefer.

TIA!
peace

Actually, would you mind posting the recipe?  I'd like to make some for the holidays, and I know it takes a while to cure.

thanks!

Here is a link w/ a bunch of Kahlua recipes:

I love making homemade Irish Cream around the holidays (the eggless recipes).  It takes no time to cure, either!!

Okay, this is the recipe (I've seen the same one various other places on the 'net since I found my copy of ReadyMade LOL)

2 c water
4 c sugar
1/2 c instant coffee
3 T vanilla extract OR 1 whole vanilla bean, split
2 1/2 c vodka
(bottles)

Combine water, sugar, coffee, and pinch of salt in saucepan. Bring to boil over med heat; reduce heat and let simmer for an hour, stirring occasionally to prevent scalding. Skim off foam. Pour into large glass bottle, add vanilla, and seal ((NOTE: we added the vanilla then bottled it in quart milk bottles)). Store in a dark place and shake once every few days for at least one month and up to one year.

So now I have three bottles sitting in my closet. I'll report back next month LOL

If someone could post the irish cream recipe, I know the boy would love it (he was discussing this very issue as we made the kahlua).

Also, the new mag "Chow" has a recipe for homemade eggnog I'm gonna try after thanksgiving...

So, I just found a great site (thanks to the lovely not martha!) that describes in a long and funny pseudo-scientific tutorial how to use a Brita filter to filter nasty cheap vodka to make palatable and perfectly mixable vodka for the Kahlua and other homemade liquors!

http://www.ohmygoditburns.com/

Yay for cheap booze!
