Don't be a soap licker

A guy at school has ordered some anise soap from me (he's obsessed with anise/black licorice scent) and pretty much left the blending up to me. I'm going to make a few different batches I think. Does anybody know what other eo's would make a good blend? I don't really like anise and have never used it before, so not really sure what would smell good. We've discussed lavender, but I'm not sure what ratio would be good. Also, is anise eo a sensitizer? Do I need to go easy on it in the soap?

Hmm. That sounds like a difficult scent to mix stuff with. Rather than going floral with lavender, I would think spicy scents might blend better. Maybe clove or cinnamon? Or even woodsy like cedar? I've never used anise, though so I'm not totally sure.

Does it have to be blended?  Anise scent on soap is so delish all by itself and is my personal fave.

I use anise all the time in blends!  I love it with pink grapefruit; this blend is weird and modern, but I think it's cool.  They're both top notes, though, so they don't linger on the skin for more than 30 minutes.

Anise also works well with wood and grass type scents, like sweetgrass, osmanthus, frankincense, and sandalwood.  Lavenders come in many varieties, and they don't all smell the same.  Lavandin is a much stronger, more camphorous scent than Bulgarian lavender, and used in many men's toiletries.  It also has great staying power.

I love the goats milk soap idea, too.

Or lime

I've got some great soaps i made with Anise and irish moss - the colours of the moss complement the anise perfectly!

I know I'm late as heck here, but I just wanted to pop in and suggest blending the Anise with Lemon EO and a little Clary Sage EO.  I made this blend as the "Air" part of a set of Elemental soaps for a wholesale customer, and it was pretty awesome.
