Wow, I have to check in here more. A dyeing forum, is that new? It must be...

Anyhow, consider me interested. I vote for one monthly theme that's broad, like: space dyeing, or color mixing, or different fibers (alpaca, merino, yarns, nylons), or clothing.

Kewl!

I like the one a month theme, however instead of specifying techniques or fibres I'd like themes that invite creative expression; kind of like "spring"; "gardens"; "opulence" etc if that makes any sense Roll Eyes

yup, that wasy my original intent. that way we dont limit the amount of dyers who can participate: not everyone wants to dye alpaca or silk.

agreed! i just bought like 20 lbs of wool fiber so I don't think I will be buying any other fiber for a LONG time... I love themes that can really mean a different thing to each crafter. color themes are nice but its also super cool to see all the different ways that people can interpret something like 'spring' or 'inspired by your favorite fine artist'...

i am so excited to get this up and going!

oh and vanillaxlight- i totally understand with school and all. i have been really busy lately too!

This sounds fun! I would prefer monthly themes, as I don't get around to dying that often and think it would be complicated to always check which topic is on.

Thanks for organising this!

Maybe you could do it how the felt board used to *havent been there in awhile* where they would have links to instructions for the monthly theme IE felted vessel, needlefelted somethingorother.

k, kids, I decided a monthly dyealong with vague themes (not material themes, but idea themes. Like red, or spring, or book). I need some suggested themes, though! Im going to post the first dyealong for May when I get a few themes together. For the rest of the months, we'll vote on themes.

Sorry TwilightDancer we posted at the same time! I love your theme ideas! That list sounds like something that I would have come up with. Smiley The beatles would be so fun. I could go nuts with that theme. I have been obessed with the beatles since I was a little girl!

oh, mythodology would be quite a challenge! And I love rainforest or desert as well!

As I hinted earlier, you could pretty much use any country for this as well, some interesting ones might be Japan, France, UK, Cuba, India, Australia....

Oh there are so many possibilities!

I would think more of themes based on dye methods, ie

-Koolaid single packs
-make your own blend (anything goes)
-wiltons food coloring
-Easter egg dye
-Jacquard Acid Dyes

This way we will learn to use new dyes together and see how they differ from eachother.

Dye methods would be a good idea. We could combine it with a theme, like "Spring inspired using only kool aid"

Time for a new Dye Along soon? I've been looking forward to participating, but since food dyes like Wilton's are kind of hard to get here I had to pass on the last one Sad

I like both themes and dye methods. But I think dye methods should be a little more general. Like 'food dyes', 'acid dyes', 'dye plant fibres', 'hand painting'. And so on. That way you can use whatever is easy to get for you. Dye alongs with different kinds of resist dyeing would be cool too Smiley

I just started dyeing a month ago. I dye silk fabric and wool to support my Nuno felting habit.
I like color themes because I have a hard time not just doing colors I love.
Some inspirations
Skies (not just blue, but sunsets, sunrise, stormy, etc) I made a wonderful wool roving in a sunrise orange, pink, purple, and blue...
animals (tabby cat, okapi, cheetah)
Stones (think malachite, jasper, turquoises )
Some methods that might be interesting to try if you haven't are
solar dyeing (saw that in a book recently) Microwave dyeing (kool aids are safe, I have a special dye only microwave )
Okay thats what I got..
I'm stoked about theme dyeing
Cool!

I don't think this is happening anymore, gypsyharte  Undecided

Although I don't dye roving, which seems to be the popular thing to do in this board, I do love to dye and would enjoy a dye-along...if this ever gets going again, I'd love to participate!
