grimmace piggy bank (from mcdonalds in 1984) + dremel + lamp kit = grimmace lamp!  (and it's still useable as a piggy bank, too!)

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-1/599215/grimmace.jpg

i just drilled a little hole in top, and one sort of out of his butt (i'd have more pictures but i'm using some kind of weird ebay image hosting thing..)  and i got the socket and lamp cord from the hardware store down the street for $6!

took no time at all...  i still need to glue the socket down though.. it is just sitting on top.

i can't wait to find a lampshade for it.  i love this piggy bank... his blank expression and sort of welcoming arms crack me up everytime...

congrats yrstarbrightgirl!! wish i could see ur lamp tho..

im trying to get myself motivated to make a lamp soon also... havent settled on the lamp yet, but have decided on a lampshade idea...maybe itll help u out some...

in another thread [http://www.craftster.org/yabbse/index.php?board=42;action=display;threadid=873;start=15]   there was discussion about decopauging crazy stories from those "world weekly news" tabloid things onto a frame... im thinking im gonna do something like that but to a lampshade, but since im a baltimore girl and have had a Best of Baltimore edition of the City Paper laying around i think im gonna use that... some great drawings and stuff of baltimore culture stuff in it....should be fun

go baltimore Smiley  i just got back here after winter break.. so glad to be back.

hm, your city paper thing gave me an idea... do happy meals still come in those cardboard boxes?  maybe that would be a cool lampshade for grimmace...

There he is! you're right that pose is really kinda humorous..
i believe that happy meals now come in bags..which technically would be better to decopauge with anyways...altho i think the boxes had better pictures...
out of curiousity i just typed 'happy meal boxes' into ebay and lots of stuff came up. this one looks promising and cheap:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3169281637&category=768

or u could make some kind of hod-podge of diff't fast food stuff... like mix the crowns from burger king with pictures of Wendy and the Colonel from KFC....

helpful hint tho... if ur decopauging something heavier than normal paper... like a postcard or a happy meal box i guess lol supposedly if u soak the back in vinegar u can separate the picture image from the backing... making it see thru kinda like tissue paper which would rock for a lamp shade..

oh and yay for baltimore area crafty chicas!
