I posted a page of these hats before but I am so excited about this one that I have to start a new link! It's my newsboy hat, but this one is by far the best job of it that i've done, it looks much more professional, plus I made one of those tie flowers (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=5089.0) only first I made a tube of my fabric and gathered that instead of a tie.

My hat started out as this huge coat.. I actually only used the fabric from the front left side so I have quite a bit left

This is the finished hat modeled by my lovely roomie:

and this is a closeup of the flower

This is the link to the other hat I made in this style.. It has the pattern and everything in there: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=6107.0

The flower was done using the method for making the tie flowers (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=5089.0) except instead of using a pre-made tie I just made a tube of my fabric and followed the same directions.

I love this hat!
How do you make the brim stay stiff?

That hat is awesome!  What did you use to stabilize the brim?

I saw people asking for a tutorial.  You don't need one, there is a free program called wildthings from wildginger with a newsboy hat, along with lots of other accessorie patterns.  Just download the program from here:

http://www.wildginger.com/products/wildthings.htm

You can customize the size of everything, and it comes with basic directions in the index, but the makers assume you have a basic sewing knowledge (no drawings to guide you)

I was thinking of making a similar hat from some houndstooth wool with black and white checks.  Now I am totally motivated!

Thanks!

for the brim I just put a layer of the stiff lining stuff the jacket had in it in the middle (between two outer layers of the outer jacket fabric) and it stays nice and stiff!
