I'm looking for a simple roll brim hat that would fit a 2-3 year old. I've googled like crazy & can't find one, at least not with a picture. I need a visual, since I'm still a novice!
Thanks.

Hiya,

Try this search string in google: child roll brim knitted hat pattern

It came up with a few good-looking ones.

I find that it's easier to get the right size if you knit a hat from the top down.  You can knit back-and-forth for a cap with one seam,  or in the round on double-pointed needles.

Cast on 8 stitches.
Increase by knitting twice in every stitch. (16 total)
Knit a plain row. (purl the plain rows if you're working flat)
increase 8 stitches in the next row (increase in the first stitch, knit one, increase in the next stitch, knit one etc) (24 stitches)

alternate plain rows/rounds and increase rounds -- increase 8 stitches evenly spaced on each increase round.  When it's a circle big enough to cover the top of the head, stop increasing and just work plain until it's long enough, knit another inch or so in plain stockinette for your rolled brim and bind off loosely.  Presto!  Hope this helps; have fun!
