So I put the paint on... and then what? How do I know when I've left it on long enough? Do I rinse it off after it's dry?

I just used the black construction paper method, it worked GREAT. It isnt as dark as I wanted it, but whatever, its amazingly cute.
See? Its a power symbol. Like on computers and stuff. Haha, now people can turn me on...
Bad pun, sorry.

I have got to get some of that paper!!!
I am going to try painting straight black food dye letting it dry and wiping off later to see how that does.

So I tried straight black food colour - I painted it on and left it for around 20+ minutes then I washed off the residue, and it promptly faded to this pinky, bruised kinda colour, as you can see. It was an infinity symbol.
So much for that idea - but maybe if I leave it on longer, say a couple of hours?

black food dye is pretty much always pink when you wash it off. It might turn brighter purple, but won't be black.

maybe you can put it on something like dye something and then wet it before you put it on your skin. and leave it for 20+ min?

Wow I just did this and it was soo cool! Basicaly I just left it on until it dried and then the paste all crumbled and I just brushed it off and it left the design behind. It washed off pretty easy with soap and water though. However, I made a smaller portion of the stuff and used the same amount of food colouring and it came out a LOT darker and lasted through my shower. So I guess the more food colouring you use the darker it is. I also found that pink was very light, but even a little blue is very bright against my skin and lasted a lot longer. However it could just be me, pink doesnt seem to take well to my skin (as proven by my tattoo). I didn't take pictures sorry.
