I bought a bunch of second-hand hardcover books with pretty designs on them, and used an x-acto to cut out the holes (those books were tougher to cut than I thought!).

I reinforced the back with rigid paper, and glued the paper so the books were slightly bent, so they could stand without being propped up.

i *love* this!

i've had a different idea for using books as frames but haven't gotten around to actually making it yet.

these are great, though. have you thought of hanging them on the wall?

You have been wisted  Cheesy seriously, I am definitely adding this on my list of things to do with all the books I tend to collect for their covers/titles. Thanks for another cool idea. Could I possibly see the back of one?

Unfortunately I gave them all away as christmas presents to my family, and I'm thousands of miles from home, so I don't have any pictures of the back! Sorry. I glued on a fairly rigid paper/carboard to keep them stiff, and then decorated the back with stationery.

The second book that you have in the first picture, the blue one with the gold tree on it, i have that same one, i'm going to make a notebook out of it, i took the pages out allready. I just thought that was funny.

I really like your idea, i never would have thought to use books as picture frames, and they way you can prop them open is a bonus.

great idea!

Thanks for the wonderful idea - I bought a complete set of encylcopedia britannica for a "book" shelf and only used 5 for my shelf... Now I know what to do with some of the others!!!

They look great!  I saw something similar to this in Readymade a long time ago, and you just reminded me of how much I wanted to try it.

These are awesome! I don't know if I'd be able to cut trough books (for me, books are sacred). But I love the way they look!
