Stitch 'n Bitch New Haven
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SnB_NewHaven
http://knitting.meetup.com/909

All ages and skill levels who do any portable craft are welcome. (Including, but not limited to, knitting, crochet, embroidery, crewel, cross-stitch, hand-quilting, beading, and jewelry-making.)

We meet:
Every Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Starbucks, 1660 Litchfield Turnpike (Rte. 69) in Woodbridge (map & directions);
Every Wednesday from 7 to at least 9 p.m. at Au Bon Pain, 1 Broadway (on the corner of York Street) in New Haven (http://www.aubonpain.com);
Every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Panera, 132 Universal Drive (exit 9 off I-91) in North Haven (http://www.panerabread.com);
And every Sunday from 1 to at least 3 p.m. at the Yale Bookstore (Barnes & Noble), 77 Broadway in New Haven (http://www.yalebookstore.com).

Come every week or every once in a while. The only cost is any food or drink you might purchase.

No lessons as such, but if you bring chunky yarn (cheap acrylic is fine) and big knitting needles or a big crochet hook, someone'll gladly get you started with the basics.

oh my goodness! I'm a student in New Haven and I never thought any kind of crafty community would ever get started here. I'm so glad I found this thread. I'm joining!

If you need beginner's lessons, bring chunky yarn (cheap acrylic is fine) and big knitting needles or a big crochet hook, and someone'll get you started with the basics. Otherwise, just bring whatever you're working on -- any portable craft, including (but not limited to) knitting, crochet, embroidery, tatting, hand-quilting, etc.

i talked some girls from work into coming up with me.. is there a decent amount of people there on either day usually? i would hate to have them take the night off and then for us to get there and be alone. they are so excited!

You definitely won't be alone either day, but Wednesdays are bigger than Thursdays.

It's been three years since I started Stitch 'n Bitch New Haven. We're on both Yahoo Groups and Meetup now, and we meet four times a week in three different towns. To think it all started with just me and my friend Aileen (the only knitter I knew) hanging out at Koffee every Wednesday night.

If you're ever in the area, please stop by & say hi.
