Colonial Fiber Arts

http://colonialfiberarts.com/

This is down in Yorktown Beach in the merchant's section and mainly covers  spinning, weaving, knitting, crochet, etc. All of the yarns are non-synthetic, and it also has things for sale like looms and spinning wheels.

I love The Second Yard on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach, across from Regency Hilltop, in a little colonial house with two stories.  It's Calico Corners' biggest competitor, but is a mom and pop shop, which I prefer.  I'd rather go there anyway, because I used to work for Calico Corners and the owner wasn't very pleasant.  Cry

I went looking for Paul's the other day in Hampton, can't find it.  Sad  Either I'm a spaz and didn't see it, or they no longer exist.  That bites either way, I need eyes on a shaft and NO WHERE carries them.  I need them NOW so I was hoping to avoid having to get them online.

This is not a fabric store, but a sewing machine repair store. Because I had such a great experience with them I wanted to pass it along to other Hampton Roads sewers.

Tidewater Sew & Vac

They repaired my sewing machine, and it now runs better than it has in years! The charge was $49.00, and they also sent me a coupon, and called to make sure I was satisfied.

The man in the store showed me how to operate several of the new machines. Even though he knew I was not in the market for a new one.

The location I went to was at:  SOUTHERN SHOPPING CENTER, 757-587-3136 * 7525 Tidewater Drive, Suite 34

So if you should need help, repair or a new machine I highly recommend this store! Smiley

You can't find Paul's in Hampton, because for all concerned, they really don't exist anymore.

They have now become Frame Mart... or something like that.. I'm not sure if craft stuff is still available there or not.. but my guess is that not much, if any, is still in there.

Hampton needs a craft store!  I would LIVE there.

For now, JoAnn's is the bastard step-son of crafting stores and my former employee... can you feel the malice??

*sigh*  online really isn't a bad way to go.. I get a lot of supplies on etsy.

There's also Nancy's Calico Patch
21 Hidenwood Shopping Center
Newport News, VA  23606
Open Monday    Saturday  10:00am    5:00pm,   Closed Sunday

Serving the Tidewater area over 20 years

I am not affiliated with them in any way, but I do shop there and I do like to patronize these smaller, longtime businesses. They are primarily a quilt shop with "Fabrics, Books, Patterns, Notions, Threads, Accessories & Classes" and they offer sewing machines and repair services.

The Wal-Mart in Williamsburg just brought their fabric department back about 6 months ago.  It is rather limited, but it's better than nothing!

Also, we just got a new JoAnn fabric and craft store in the New Town area of Williamsburg last summer.  It is really great, now I don't have to drive to Newport News to get craft supplies at Michael's!

Does anyone know if any of the Hampton Roads Walmarts still carry fabric?

The Grassfield Walmart off of Dominion Blvd. in Chesapeake just started carrying fabric again as well as the Walmart on Military Hwy. in Norfolk. Not sure about the other Walmarts in the area. Hope this helps.
