OK so I have wanted to get my cat a cat house for a lil while now. But so far im seeing outrageously priced homes that arent even big at all. So my wonderful Boyfriend suggested that now that ive emptied out my chest i should convert it into a cat house for dobey (el gato)
this is wat im talkin about

Im thinking to line the bottom with a wicker like matt since he loves that material. Then to put like a shelf across the left half of the box so he can sit up there above the trunk floor. I will  leave the top open permenantly and hand  strings and toys from the top. And he will enter his lil castle by a door ill cut out of the bottom. What do you guys think?
OHJHH and the ouside may be lined with carpet since he may wanna scratch stuff.

heres hte Model of it lol enjoy.

Interesting idea. I could see it working. My biggest worry would be making sure the lid doesn't come down. Maybe take the lid off and make the shelf a little further across so there's still a hidey space?

OK i put some of it kinda together without screws though because i wanted to test it out a bit. and heres wat it may look like.

Well as far as the lid shutting on him im drilling that shelf to the lid so it cant close even if i try to shut it . See below he can hide out there.
that sheet is his but in the mean time i put it in there for him.

See he likes the camera. That string is holding a bag of catnip that he is trying to break open like a pinata.

And this is where he likes to sit when he wants some love or food.
Well this is a start not near completion.

+D

Pretty kitty.

Looks like he already likes it. Yes, I see what you mean about the lid not being able to close.

Such a clever idea.

Your house looks like a good idea.

UPDATE***
He peeed in it . LMAO my cat wants me to loose my mind. Ahh i have no idea what got into him he was roliin all over in it enjoying the catnip perhaps all the excitement made his bladder weak?
Well i had to toss it because its not real wood its that compressed wood and cat urine is so easily absorbed. =(
I will try again im thinking about what else i can use. Thanks to all who for reading the thread and offering advice and comments.

Some cats will just pee on anything!

Maybe next time make a pad for it, maybe out of one of those diaper-changing pads for babies or some old towels.  That way if kitty decides to go piddle you can throw away the pad and it won't be a total loss.

Or just make houses out of cardboard--my cats LOVE cardboard boxes, and they're easy to replace!
