I love that there's no plastic or anything in the brim.  I think that's what's turned me off of other hat patterns with similar brims.  So cute!

That is exactly the type of pattern I am looking for! I wanted a special summer newborn hat for a friend due in June. Do you think it would work in a cotton/linen blend?

Thanks,
candice
That would be such a nice gift!  I wish I would have known how to knit when my daughter was born, but atleast I will get to knit those teeny-tiny things for my new neice who will be here in about a week!  Grin

I think a cotton/linen blend would work, although I have never worked with linen myself, I've read that it does stay more true to its original shape than a regular cotton.

I also thought when designing this it would work well in a mercerized cotton, which has a nice sheen and hold its shape better than normal cotton yarns.

One thing I would definetly do if working with a cotton is make sure to wash your guage swatch.  Instead of growing after blocking, cotton may shrink a bit.

I love that there's no plastic or anything in the brim.  I think that's what's turned me off of other hat patterns with similar brims.  So cute!

I agree, if your kids actually go out and play in the hat or do any activity it is bound to get a huge crease in it.  That always bugged me Smiley

I wanted to show off the Kiddie Cadet I made four our sister who is due TODAY! She is having a baby girl and I thought this hat would just be too perfect for her. I made the baby sized version out of Cascade 220 Superwash in #810 Teal. It turned out great, and I can't wait to see it on her! I made it to go with the rest of a gift I am sending off to her. You can read more about it on our blog.

I will add a pic once she actually has the baby though!  Wink

Hehe we're working hard on the adult version right now, the first version turned out good but there were some things that needed changing for sure, I am testing out the rewritten pattern right now, so if all goes well we'll have it done by the end of the week!

I can't wait to see it on the new baby too!  Our sister went in to the hospital last night, so our new neice will be entering the world soon!  I can't contain my excitement!  Grin

Yay!  I have a neice now!  She was born yesterday Wink

Also, for those of you curious about the Adult sized pattern, I wrote a little about it on my blog today:

We're still working on testing a couple of the sizes, but it looks good so far!

Right on!  Thanks for the preview,  It looks great.  What size yarn did you use?  I'm going to start looking through my stash to have ready for when the pattern is released!

Congrats on your new niece.
