I noticed that some of you use the plastic labels in your ATCs and I love the way they look, plus I had a Dymo label maker when I was a kid and loved it, so I wanted to buy one for me and my kids. We bought a cheap Dymo 'Label Blaster' and it stopped advancing like one day later so I figured we needed to invest more than $4.99 for one that will work longer than 48 hours.  Roll Eyes

What do you recommend?

I am lucky enough to still have my original label maker from the 70's and it is still working fine. I know some people have bought the $10. version lately at target and they said theirs was working ok. Like most things, they are not all made the same I guess. I hope you exchanged it for a new one to try- the 2nd one might be better.
I recommend trying to find an older one as they seem to hold up better. Sometimes you can find them on e-bay.

Thanks for the info! I wish I still had my 70s one, I'm sure it is still working for whoever owns it now. LOL

We can't return the one we bought as we bought it at a store while we were on vacation last week and there aren't any around in our area. We did call Dymo and they were less than helpfull.  Embarrassed

My dymo from Micheals did the same thing, it was a ten dollar one.  If I fiddle with it enough I can get it to work again but its very finnicky.  Drives me nuts so I hardly ever use it.

wignatz, I got a 5.00 Dymo (Label buddy) from Walmarts and I love it. I've only had it a month or so but it has worked great so far. Maybe you just got a lemon?
I also got the 10.00 one and don't love it as much - the letters are spaced too far apart for my taste.
(the 5.00 Dymo is what I used on my Velveteen Rabbit ATCs).
Hope you have better luck next time.

I have the Label Buddy (walmart) as well. I've had it for at least five years and it's seen a lot of love... my friends and I adore making goofy labels for each other. In fact, my label maker goes with me in my purse in case a situation calls for a funny label! ... yeah, lame, but in any case, the Label Buddy (love that name, too) is still going strong!

huh, maybe the Label Buddy is just a bit better than my lemon Label Buster? I should have known with that name, right?  Wink

BTW, I ended up buying a Dymo Organizer Express yesterday and I have used it quite a bit already (as I mentioned in another thread).

Oh, and I forgot to mention, that my sweet husband went out and bought me the Dymo
LetraTag Plus electronic handheld label maker. It's very cool, of course he liked it as it's way more techy than the manual ones. LOL
So now I have both kinds, I'm spoiled.

if you're still looking for an older label maker, try going to a thrift store. The one here has a whole basket of funky colored ones that I can only imagine are from decades ago! Maybe you can find something there.
