so i saw this thread...http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=11948.0 and xmelinda has inspired me to start this thread. If we all made up some really awesome granny squares and put tutes and pictures we could all admire our creativity and possible make a cool afghan if enough people join.

so what do y'all say!!?

ok so i'll start it with what i just made...its kinda wonky but im hoping once it's sewed to other squares it'll straighten

and here is the pattern...sorry if its confusing but ive never written a pattern before so i'll do my best

Row1: ch10 join
Row2: 25 sc in circle, join
Row3: ch4, (hdc,ch2), *5hdc, ch2, hdc in same sc as last hdc,  4hdc* repeat to end, join
Row 4: ch1 *(sc, ch2, sc) in 1st ch2 sp, sc in each hdc* to end. Finish off CA
Row 5: Join CB in a ch2 sp, repeat Row 4, End CB
Row 6: Join CA with (sc, ch4, dc) in ch 2 sp, *ch1, sk1, sc, (make bobble-refer below-, ch2) 3 times, dc in ch2 sp* continue around to end. Finish CA
Row 7: Join CB in ch2 sp *(sc, ch2, sc) in sp, sc in next sc, tr in ch 1sp connecting to previous row* continue around
Row 8: ch7, *sk3 and ch4, dc, sk 3 and ch4, hdc, sk3 and ch4, sc in ch2 sp, sk3 and ch4, hdc, sk3 and ch4, dc, ch7, sc in ch2 sp, sc to next sp* once more
Row 9: 3sc, ch3, sc in same sp as last sc to make corner, *sc across to dc, 3sc, make corner* to end. finish off

To make Bobble: (yo, pull loop through) 4times, yo and pull through all loops on hook.

ok hope it makes sense!

Okay, I'm finally have the hand of a regular granny square, and I'm starting to learn a few fancy stich patterns...so if I am brave, I may attempt this...how much time do we have?

I came up wtih this, might make a little lapghan with it or something using different color beetles.

Ladybug Square:
With red:
Ch 3, join into a ring
Working in ring: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, 11 more dc (total of 12)
Ch 3 to count as first dc, do another dc in same st, then do 2 dc in each stitch around (total of 24)

With Green:
round 1: *sc, hdc,2 dc in one st, ch 3, 2 dc in one st, hdc, sc* four times
round 2: dc around, doing *2 dc in one st, ch3, 2 dc in one st* at the corners

Embroider on the features with black. (I used a daisy-chain stitch for the center line, and made X's enclosed in boxes for the spots. Next one I do I will use daisy-chain stitch to make the antennae too, I think, so it's all fastened down neatly.

Ooooh! I love the lady bug! That will make such a cute afghan!

I have my square idea, but I haven't tried it yet. And I've never written out instructions for crochet before, so I'm a little nervous!
