Hey there, Orlandians! I'm soon to graduate from college with a BFA in costume design and am considering a move to Orlando. What's the job scene like for craftsters there? I've worked as a seamstress for several years in additio to my design experience and I just want to get out there and show the world what I'm made of. Any advice about where to live or look for work? The bummer about graduating is that they stop giving you financial aid, so I'm looking for either a cheap area or an obscenely wealthy patron willing to support my artistic whims (riiiight).

If you have a degree in costume design, check with Disney or Universal. (I don't know if you're looking for something like that).

I almost went to a deisgn school and they said that quite a few of their graduates go to work for one of the 357675 theme parks around here.

Busch Gardens in Tampa might also be a possibility.  A lot of Broadway plays come through Tampa and Orlando and there's a good deal of local theater.

I work for Disney, they are always looking for people.  There are several apartment complexes around with low rent near the diff parks (one is right accross from Magic Kingdom's cast member parking lot.  WOHOO! save on gas money lol)  If you need info on disney casting or apartment info, let me know.

Thanks for the offer, but I looked into DIsney and they usually farm out their design assistantships to interns and all their costumes are built off-site. I did manage to find an apartment and have applied at a couple other theme parks who do their work on-site.
