I also think that the button should be for every post, mainly because of swaps.

I don't like #4 very much, because I think "This Rocks" projects should remain as choices/input for featured projects, whereas Hot New Topics are a bit different because they aren't necessarily projects, and they are very specifically new topics with more replies. Some HNTs are discussion threads, and I just think that TRs and HNTs should stay separate.

I hope that made sense!

I hear ya on this. I agree that it's nice to have a balance of discussions and projects in the Hot New Topics area so I would try to maintain that even with these changes.

I guess I'm kind of wondering about #3.  It sounds like every topic would then have almost two threads--one for questions, tutes, etc and one for compliments.
Is anyone else foreseeing that, or am I over thinking?

Yeah... That's sorta the thinking. Really the idea is to allow people to weigh in that they love something without having the thread get really bogged down with those comments. And the thread itself would mostly be helpful informational posts.

#3 bothers me, i understand segregating info vs. compliments for ease but i only click this rocks on stuff I absolutely adore.  and I'm afraid if that was they way you left compliments it would take away some of the support craftsters offers all levels and areas of crafting

Interesting point. I'd love to hear more people's thoughts on this.

That was one of my major thoughts, too.  I can like something and think it's worth commenting on without loving it, which means I'm not going to hit the "This Rocks" button for it, unless, of course, the intent is to change what exactly "This Rocks" means?  Because I think it's worth commenting on things that maybe just wiggle or teeter a bit instead of just full-blown rocking....  Undecided

On the one hand, I like the idea of being able to see if/when crafters say something I made rocked, and what exactly they said about it--who doesn't love a little ego stroke now and again?--but I feel a bit uneasy about some of these.

I have seen awesome swap items, so I think the button needs to remain on all the posts.  But then I was wondering:  does anyone ever click the "This Rocks" for a non-picture post, such as a tip posted in a longer thread?  Because if someone posted some ingenious tip for doing something difficult, even if it's buried in someone else's project thread, I'd love for people to rock those, too, and for those to get collected somewhere, so when I want to try that same thing I can easily find the most ingenious of tips.  But if no one ever used the button for that, well, I guess that isn't really useful.   Undecided

Brilliant!

Although I do see the concerns about #3, I don't think it will really be a problem. People can utilize the "this rocks" button to say a few words, and still leave a longer reply to say how much you love it. You'll still be able to leave comments on any post... but the "this rocks" button will cut down on the very short comments. Am  I right on this?

so, okay.  can someone clarify this for me?

when i want to post on a topic and say "wow!  that's really cool, i like the color/cut/design/whatever" WITHOUT pressing the "this rocks" button - would it still go in the "regular" thread, or since it's a comment and not discussion, would it go into the other thread?
