Such gorgeous fabrics going on around here - I am loving that American Jane stuff - and Kitsch the fabric on that apron is just droolable!
Okay... We all know I am a slacker. Knitting_nyxxie posted some shots of the shirts I sent her - hey, did you ever part with the flowered one long enough to get it through the wash? That was my favorite! She sent me an awesome resin kit - and I did get a chance to play with it. Of course being me... I did something a bit more difficult than a beginner project - and had limited success - but learned from my mistakes.
Before everyone goes eeeeiiiiwwww... warning - spiders coming up.
I live in Alabama. I have a very large black widow population in my yard - and have been killing them in the past thanks to pesticides... but now I have found another use for them...
Here are two of my resin castings - they aren't perfect - they have a lot of very tiny bubbles in them - next time I will break out the hair dryer to take care of them.. blowing on them didn't do the trick!
One is of my big lady - who was far too big for the area in this casting - next time I will use half of an easter egg to cast one that big (and I just caught one even bigger today!! Whoooo hoooo! I am bummed though. I wasn't able to catch the male. He is still out there... probably looking for another date - no, they don't always kill the males.)
Apparantly when you catch a spider - and they get flustered enough they must moult. I have had 3 now that shed when they are in captivity - and here is my big widow's ectoskeleton...
and here is the big lady herself...
and that is what I did with my resin kit!
Sorry to gross you all out..
I do have a widow in captivity caught today - and she is huuuuuge! Although she apparantly broke her leg off ... bummer. I also have a bold jumping spider - and his ectoskeleton... so I will do them up maybe this weekend after they are ready to go - I have learned that with the widows you must set them fast - their colors start to fade quick!
Okay. I think I am done grossing you all out - and yes, I am actually afraid of spiders ... but even cooler is that my husband enjoyed helping me with this project and is excited when I tell him I found a bug! I am really hoping to find dead beetles... I haven't seen any beetles here except for boring black ones... but that will be for another day!
