I wish I were as comfortable as that baby looks. So cute!

1craftgrl, I use the box pleat for my slings and it works out great.  It keeps everything nice and neat at the rings and the fabric still spans out nicely over the shoulder.

Wow, very nice!

I've been wanting a sling for my belly bean, but the idea of paying $50+ for one when I could do it myself was a bit offputting. Thanks so much for the links, I really want to try this out myself.

these are awesome!  when my daughter was born i did not yet know how to sew and purchased a sling off a woman who makes them and sells on ebay.  it was a box pleat style sling, and i used the heck out of thet thing.  seriously i used it every day until my daughter was about 14 months old.  i used to wear it and her while i cooked because she was spoiled and wouldn't let me out of her sight.  now that it is springtime i may start using it again (she's 2 now) with her on my back.
i think i will try to make one myself though, thank you for the links!

Merricat, have you ever tried a mei tai carrier?  I still use my sling quite often but now that she's getting heavier I tend to use a mei tai for longer periods of time.  You can find directions on the same website that has the sling directions.
