its covered with a layer of beeswax.  I've done some cards like this, it gives an aged look, smells great and you can stick things in it.  Queen of Fools was a little worried that her hot weather would melt it in transit, but it travelled okay.

I bought a little potpourri crockpot that I melt the wax in, then paint it on with an old brush.  I also got a travel iron (second hand store!) that has no holes in it and use that to flatten out the wax.

I glad it got there okay.

My beeswax application wasn't even that high tech.  I made a aluminum foil bowl that I put over a pot of hot water (like a double boiler) to melt it and then brushed it on.  Then I used a palette knife with my heat gun to smooth it out.  I'm on the lookout for one of those potpourri pots and a quilting iron, though, 'cause my method almost required another set of hands.

That's a great card from Ms. Rosie, Jane.  It's very serene.

I got both the little pot and the small travel iron at the second hand store for a buck each.  Otherwise I'm sure I'd be right with ya in the tin foil Wink

Here's a ATC Tristitia sent me!

The map in the background appears to be from eastern Europe/central Asia. I think it is great!  Thanks Tristitia!

I received my final card today from alteredmommy:

The scan doesn't really do it much justice (as tends to happen) but I love it.  I think it's a map of some place in Germany and there is silver foil around the outside edge that shines nicely in non-scan lighting.  Thanks alteredmommy!

Thanks for the explanation Mommy and Queen. Totally cool.  I've wanted to get some Beeswax for my Prim business but never could warrant the money.

These latest cards are rockin'.
