OK, there's been a bunch of kids book swaps, but what about teen books?  There's so much good stuff out there now, or you could do your favorite book from when you were a teen, or you're fave book now if you are a teen...
C'mon, who doesn't want to make King Dork, Judy Blume's Forever, or Scott Westerfeld crafts?

Scott Westerfeld crafts, ftw. There are a lot of crappy "young adult" books out there, but there's also some pretty damn good ones. Only...what can you craft out of a Scott Westerfeld book o-o;? I've mostly only read the Uglies series (going to be a mooovie!) and So Yesterday, though I want to read Peeps and the Midnighters. Some people might be interested in those one vampire books too, by Stephanie Meyers. I've yet to read them. I pick them up, but then I feel embarassed at how silly they sound and grab another book, haha.

Midnighters=awesome.  And actually the one I was thinking of for crafty potential.

I'm 17, and I'm a nerd. Seriously. I love to read. What would the swap entail? Send a copy of the book, crafts related to the book, or both?

Peeps is a seriously awesome book, but the sequel Last Days isn't as good. But everyone should read Peeps. Every second chapter is a mini one on parasites. I started reading it at like 2 pm one saturday and stayed up till 5 am on sunday to finish it.

I guess I was thinking whatever.  When you signed up (in theory), you'd answer questions about your fave author, books, etc.

I'm a teen services librarian so I think this would be a lot of fun.  What if we crafted for whatever book / author our partner likes and sent a copy of a ya book that we like.  That way everyone would get a craft from something they like and a new (probably used) book.  Any other ideas?

ooo, yarn_tart--where do you do your librarianing?  That's what I am too.
I like the idea of crafting for the other person and forcing a book you like on them.

And bombgirl, we're not even going to start talking about all the trashy and/or fluffy crap I secretly love.  VC Andrews, anyone? Smiley

Well, I am a teen, but don't read very many teen novels. My favorite author seems to be Nora Roberts, since the 4 books I absolutely adore are by her.
However I have read a lot of Lorrain McDaniel books, and love them! I'm pretty sure their all teen books. But they're sooo sad. I'm pretty sure I've liked a lot of other teen books also, but my mind is drawing a blank.
Anyway, I think I would still be interested in this swap.

Oh!! Does The Secret Garden book count??? And is their a Peter Pan book? I can't believe I haven't check that out already!

I think if we want to do this, we gotta split up the categories. Because, seriously, teenlit is a very broad topic! I'm not a romantic comedy teenlit kind of person (I mean, I love romance, and I love wit, but those $3.47 Walmart paperbacks with cartoon covers of girls on shopping sprees don't do it for me), so it would be a total bummer to have to craft to that sort of thing (well, not really, but when compared to crafting for my favourite book?). So if enough people are interested in Scott Westerfeld's books, I'd totally run a swap like that over the summer or something. Doing a couple of swaps right now, send-outs past/soon. Maybe a fantasy/science fiction teenlit swap (no Harry Potter/Chronicles of Narnia/huge young adult epic movie-makers like that), maybe including but not limited to:

Francesca Lia Block (I was a Teenage Fairy, Weetzie Bat, etc.)
Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game and stuff, fun-fun)
Diane Duane (So You Want To Be A Wizard?)
Dianna Wynne Jones (Howl's Moving Castle, woot!)
Garth Nix (Shade's Children, Abhorsen series, etc.)
Tamora Pierce (Animals and pirates and knights, oh my!)
Scott Westerfeld (Just finished Specials and OH. MY. CRAP.)

Things you could send/craft to:
Favourite quotes, how the book affected you, a list of similar books, distinct objects/people/animals

Does Stephanie Meyers count? I love Twilight!

Frozenboogereatr, I was betting on a pretty extensive questionnaire.  Wink  And maybe you could list any kind of books you absolutely wouldn't want to craft for.
Personally, I won't be satisfied with anything less than an Adundance of Katherines diorama and an Amelia Atwater-Rhodes stuffie  Grin

Oh, but John Green couldn't not be included, mllejessy! I would need my Ned Vizzini and Maureen Johnson as well. I have never organised for a swap myself, I just assume that it's exTREMEly hard to sort out who is best for who, especially when the subject area is so broad! So whether you want to split the categories of real-life and fantasy/sci-fi (but where would Devilish and Be More Chill fall? I suppose they would have to be fantasy/sci-fi), or you are confident in a thorough questionnaire, I'm in.
