My Signature Recycled Bag

« on: December 03, 2007 07:13:53 PM »

I wanted to share a recycled tote bag that I made with a Christmas theme. It's an eco-friendly project and a wonderful gift idea. You can use this bag over and over again for groceries or as a regular tote bag. Either way it's a fun recycled gift idea.

I have the free pattern here http://www.myrecycledbags.com/2007/12/02/recycled-grocery-tote-bag/ for this 13 x 13 inch grocery tote bag. It's crocheted from plastic bag yarn or plarn. If you haven't tried crocheting with plastic bag yarn yet, give it a try. It's a wonderful alternative to taking home more plastic bags from the store. Enjoy and Merry Christmas to all!

Cute!  I just discovered that same website a few weeks ago---what a great resource!  I'm stocking up on bags as we speak.  About how long did it take you to complete that bag?  That's the style I was looking at making.

Is that a plastic bag crochet bowl in your avatar?   How well does it hold up?

The grocery tote bag took me maybe 6 hours including the cutting and prep for the yarn. It has a rounded bottom too so it expands when you put large stuff in the bottom. My avatar is a rug I crochet. The edges kinda curled on me but it's very durable as it's crocheted with plastic bag yarn "plarn" too.

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments. I just love that more people are trying recycled crafts. If you are new to making plastic bag yarn here is a link http://www.myrecycledbags.com/2007/02/17/instructions-for-cutting-plastic-bags-creating-recycled-plastic-yarn/
that has a step-by-step tutorial for making " plarn".
