Spinning 'til I'm dizzy

Due to the magic of being in a different timezone to most of you, I am able to start this week's thread Smiley

I spun this as a traditional 3 ply from the handdyed Corriedale top I posted in last week's thread. It's really soft and bouncy and lovely! It took a few weeks to spin and as a result isn't quite balanced - when the hank hangs loose the yarn is a little curly.

Lemon and Lime

And the closeup with pen shot:

Lloer, that green is just my sort of color!

Anyway, I wasn't able to participate last week as someone broke into my house and stole my camera (amongst other things) but I have since replaced it and have a bunch of stuff to show:

This is the most recent, with some of the black-striped stuff I got from sheep shed, dyed in shades of blue, purple, and green. I like how it turned out. There are actually 2 skeins of this, but I only took a pic of the one bigger one.

My attempt at Navajo plying in some hand-dyed corriedale. I'm not sure if I like Navajo plying. Anyway, I did it with this yarn because the colors turned out way off from what I wanted, so I wasn't attatched to it if I hated it.

More hand-dyed corriedale, this time leftovers from other piles of roving, spun up and plied together.

I did a lot of dyeing last weekend on the stuff I got from the sheep shed, so I'll have a lot of stuff to spin up. Right now I have some of their 'red mix' on the wheel.

Sorry about the sorta-crappy pictures... it's hard to get good lighting on cloudy days.

I really love your skeins lyme. I love those colors!

It's the first week I have something to show for fiber friday. It's my first skein worth mentionning, but I forgot to take a picture this morning before leaving for work. I hope there will be enough light when I get back home tonight to take a picture!

Wow, I'm sorry about the break in but your yarn is fab, nothing to post this week since I am flying to Italy today and my camera was packed up before I could take pics of anything I spun up.

Here is some mystery wool that I spun up on my new Louet Victoria. It's Navajo plied, and I think I might like that technique the best because I don't have any odd amounts of left over singles.

This was a yarn and fiber dyeing week at my house Smiley  The two skeins I spun up weren't finished until late this week and it has been pouring rain so no pics of those until next week.  Just to give an idea of the volume of dyeing which went on, check out my mannequin buried in fiber p0rn pics Wink

Whew. Okay. I did a lot of dyeing and spinning this week- this is just what I took pictures of.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/161/433694696_b2a69a2420.jpg

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/147/433694710_6c1d04f398.jpg

Everlasting Gobstopper - I took two different pieces of merino roving that I handpainted in a series of colors that don't repeat, drafted them out by hand to preserve the color sequences, and then spun them both together.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/156/434153932_5021a60435.jpg

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/173/434153962_9c210167a4.jpg

Conspicuous - this is my new favorite yarn! Columbia/Dorset blend wool roving that I handpainted in a series of colors that never repeat, and then drafted out to preserve the color sequences. It will self-stripe randomly, with no repeats.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/160/437244566_bbcda94d2a.jpg

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/163/437244572_92d7375827.jpg

Ugh. My camera will not photograph this yarn well! I guess it is just too sparkley. Columbia/Dorset wool blend in shades of black, dark brown, seafoam green, and blue, spun with blue mohair, lime green and burgundy merino, lime green sparkle, and hot pink sparkle, all plied with shiny holographic seafoam green thread.

LoveBot - grey and pink merino with a teensy bit of black, spun with grey mohair, grey/silver sparkle, hot pink sparkle, and gunmetal grey nylon fabric scraps, all plied together with metallic silver thread. Super amazing in person.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/172/438786189_39db28b553.jpg

Thistle - cotton/hemp novelty yarn! I've been wanting to spin some vegan yarn forever, and the warm weather finally prompted me to pull out some 80% cotton/20% hemp fiber that I bought ages ago and spin it. Plied with dark brown polyester thread and kettle-dyed by me.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/176/439818869_98b59d1551.jpg

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/161/439818857_f97f2adb02.jpg

I decided that I should start spinning thinner yarns for the warmer weather. So I spun this - nearly 300 yds from 2 oz of merino!! It is sooo drapey and soft.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/156/435828853_795f1b119b.jpg

I think this is Tuesday's batch of roving. All were dyed in a series of random colors, with no repeats, for color experiments.

More natural dyeing - this time with madder root. Merino top, raw Targhee, and bamboo.

Grin Right now I'm working up a helpful links page which links to different threads about different dyes, from natural to chemical, etc... Next is a small FAQ on where people can get more information about dyes from sources outside of Craftster. If anyone has any tutorials or links theyd like included, let me know!

And the yarn - I really love the everlasting gobstopper! It makes me want one Grin

Already an AWESOME FF! Everything is so beautiful. I like the no-repeats concept. Very cool. Actually I'm loving all the roving this week. But the mannequin really steals the show!

This week I re-visited old yarns and spun up new ones that would be similar. Both are hand-dyed. Mangotree: 3.2 oz, 136 yards.

Crayons V.4 (I'm doing this a lot) 3.4 oz. 144 yards.

it's a fricke dt. I LOVE IT! my first wheel and I'm still all, "I can't BELIEVE spinning can go so FAST!?!?!"  It's like, 4oz of roving would take me a week to spin on my spindle. Now it's like 45 minutes and it's gone! Kinda sad in a way, but FUN! =0)

yeah, She needs a name. At least I think she's a girl.  Seems like most things are anyway.thanks for the help! =0)

How about a name from spinning mythology? That site has a list of spinning goddesses.

I named my blog after Frigg. Wink

Everyone's yarns look fantabulous this week, as always. I'm always amazed at the fantastic colors! I think I'm on week 2 or 3 of sitting out. I've been spinning a little, but so busy prepping fiber. I miss it!

All of the fiber this week is just gawjus, as usual. but I have to say, that feralfeminine's braided hand dyed roving picture won my "computer screen background of the week" contest. I had a really hard time choosing though. To tell you the truth, I didn't want to get rid of my one from last week  Wink

This Fiber Friday is extra special for me because this yarn was spun on my new Victoria. It took me a while to get used to the speeds and to adjust the tension the way I like it but little Vicky Irsabo (I named her Irsabo because my tax refund and bonus from job helped pay for her, get it?) is a little trooper. Anyhoo, enough talk, more yarn...

This is around 150 yards of navajo plied Corriedale roving. I dyed it using wiltons and I wasn't crazy about it when I dyed it but now, eh, it's growing on me. I would've had more to show if it hadn't been for two coveted knitting books coming this week (Yarn Harlots & Charlene Schurch). Dontcha just luv fiber friday?

Okay, this is how out of touch I've been - I didn't even know Craftster had started a dyeing board.  I am clueless.  I have no defense, besides being really busy.  But yay!  A dyeing board!  It's about time!

I lost my spinning mojo for a while, but now I think I have it back - here's about 4 oz, 370 yards of hand-dyed superwash merino roving.

Ok, this one is a spoiler, so I hope my swap partner isn't lurking. I mean, it's on it's way and all but...

Anyway, I'm SUPER excited about this yarn. Like as proud of it as I was about my first spun. And then my first plied.

It's something woolly that I dyed with orange and strawberry koolaid. I named it OB Sunset because um, it really looks like that, all reds and pinks and yellows when the sun goes down over the Pacific. Aw, now I'm getting all nostalgic.
there's two skeins there, a total of about 4 oz. I forgot to count the yardage or do a wrap test.

Wow!  Everything looks spectacular today!  I've had only a few chances to spin over the past couple of weeks due to my worsening semester Sad

Here's what I have:

Wow, I'm really impressed at how some of you guys on this thread can make several skeins in just a week's time... I'm lucky if I can finish one!

yes!!  Here we are:

here is that amy tan yarn.  It has 79 yards in it, and is Navajo plied.  I have about 2 more ounces of this to spin.

this one is called Construction Paper turkey.  it is merino, and contains 49 yards.  It is also Navajo plied.  This is just a nice test skein, and I have 3.5 more ounces left.

This doesn't have a name, but it's the same as the first two.  There are 43 yards in this skein, and I just finished plying a skein that is probably in the 80-100 yard range Smiley

one of those skein is last weeks. and I dyed it all the week before. And Lody, you just made my day!

I forgot to say that I REALLY like Rusty Ewe and Caterpillar Tango is WAY fun!

I like making stuff. Rumor has it, I'm an elf. Like a Santa Elf, not one of those elegant LOTR types.  Mostly because I compulsively craft and partially because I have green shoes.

Beautiful yarns as always.

I've wondered about this a lot too!  I was wondering if it is b/c of how thin I'm spinning at the moment?  It's so hard to tell from photos how thick or thin a yarn is.

Either that or I'm just slow! Cheesy

I spin fairly bulky, and often- extra bulky.  I'm spoiled, and love to use yarns that knit super-fast.

that said, I can spin 3-4 skeins in one day... but that doesn't include dyeing the day before and setting the day after.

I'm just now looking at this, I'm waaaay behind this week!

Everything is amazing, I'd say amazing as usual, but I think it's more amazing than usual!

I added the puppy picture to my favorite items crafted by others Wink

Also, I don't suppose any of you coil-masters would like to post a little tutorial with pictures of making one of your coily yarns?  I get the concept, I think, but I wouldn't mind seeing a couple pictures 'in process'.

Ok, I've never even SEEN that issue of KnittySpin *facepalm*

When did knitty start doing the spinning stuff too, so I can hit up all the back issues I've apparently missed?
