Has anyone tried using a cold heat soldering iron?  It runs off batteries & supposedly only gets hot when it comes in contact with the solder.  I'm curious because I found a local person selling one for really cheap, but I don't know if they work well (for doing pendants, etc.).

Don't waste your money. It doesn't do a good job on anything that has heavy wear. For the same amount of money, you can go to a home improvement store and get an inexpensive soldering iron that will actually work.
