HELLO, SPRING!!!!  Now if only we could get rid of all this snow and bask in the sun!  Here's a chance to get ready with a brand new one of a kind sunhat, made especially for you:

Swap name: SUNHAT SWAP
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: Yarnhag
Sign-up date range: March 26 - April 10
Date to send item by: May 1, 2007

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): 25

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? YES/NO  No, but I won't organize if nobody wants to send to Canada!  (this happened once before and it made me sad and I won't do it again).  This swap is especially intended for residence of the Northern Hemisphere who are just entering the warm season, but those south of the Equator are also welcome to join!

All ages allowed?  YUP -- under 18's should, of course, check with parent etc.

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: NO, I AM NOT
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: Not applicable

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES

Details of swap:

This is a quick, one item swap: make a sunhat for your partner!  All styles and construction methods may be considered (for example, you may sew, knit, crochet, batik, embroider, weave, knot... I don't know what else!), but it has to be a wearable sun hat (so, like, no wool or thick quilting, okay?).  Brims are strongly recommended -- they are what keeps the sun off!  You can make the hat from scratch or decorate a purchased, plain hat.  Extra throw-ins are allowed, but the main idea here is to make a hat for someone else, without a lot of stress and worry and postage fees.  It's almost summer, after all!

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer (***Include "Sunhat Swap" in your subject line, please!):

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap:  SUNHAT SWAP

Craftster username

Email address

Your real name

Mailing address including the country

Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country?

What construction method(s) might you use to make a hat?

What construction method would you best like someone to use to make your hat?

Favourite/least favourite colour(s)?

Sunhat style preferences?

Head measurement? (measure above the eyebrows and across the bulge at the back of your head -- where the brim of a hat would normally rest.  Specify inches or centimetres.)

Anything else you would like your partner to know?

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE WITH "SUNHAT SWAP" IN THE SUBJECT LINE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

LIST OF APPROVED PARTICIPANTS:

green = sent
blue = "send-ee" received, positive feedback given

hmm -- 24 hours and no signups yet?  It cannot be.  How is it possible that the rest of the Craftster community is not as excited as I am about a new sunhat!? Wink

do you want to knit, sew or crochet?  if you just do a search on craftster for "sunhat" there are a few threads that pop up.  www.crochetpatterncentral.com and www.knittingpatterncentral.com also have some sunhat patterns.  And, if you look at my wist (which I recently loaded with sunhats for potential swap partners to look at) you can link to some patterns through there.

You can also google "free sunhat pattern" and add in "knitting" or "crochet" and see what you get.

I don't really sew beyond some very basics, so I couldn't help with sewing patterns.

If you don't get a swap going.... I'd be interested in a personal swap after a few of mine finish this month.

Not sure I want to add this on my to do list.

I can offer an idea for a hat.  Dharma trading company sells both silk and cotton sun hats that you paint and or dye. You can find them here.
