"A Day In the Life Of" Swap (Sign up Closed; first mailing 11/10/04)

Date to send item by: You will send your journal out by 11/10/04.  Mailings will continue on a two week basis, so the next one will be mailed out by 11/24/04, 12/8/04, 12/22/04 and so on until you get your journal back!

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): No!  The more the merrier!  I will divide the participants into smaller groups.

Non-U.S. participants allowed?  Of course!  For deadline purposes, my main goal is to have the swaps within each country(Canadians to Canadians, Americans to Americans, etc).  However, this may end up changing (depends on who signs up)

All ages allowed? Or 18+?  All ages as long as 1) Your parents won't freak out   2) You can reliably mail your package off  3) You or your parents will not get weirded out by anything anyone else chooses to write in the journal.

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders" and will not allow those members to participate: YES!

Organizer has been a member for at least 1 month and will make sure that every participant has been a member for
at least 1 month: YES!

Details of swap:  You will buy or make 1 journal, figure out how many pages are in it (I consider the page to be one side of a sheet of paper), and do a wee bit of math to figure out how many pages (one side of each sheet of paper) each swapper is allowed.  This will be determined by how many people are in your group (I guarantee I'll do my best to keep it small).  You can include yourself in that group if you like and write a little intro so everyone will know a little about you (and maybe tailor some of their entries to your personality) or you can leave yourself out of the equation completely and leave more pages for the other swappers to fill.  It is your choice!  On Wednesday, 11/10/04, you will send your journal to the next swapper.  You will always be sending to the same person and always receiving from the same person.  You MUST use Delivery Confirmation every time!!!!  Once you get the next journal, post here to let us know who and when you got it, carry it around with you, fill your pages with quotes, photos, ephemera, art, let your best friend write in it or whatever!  You are sharing a slice of your life with your fellow craftsters!!!!  You MUST mail it by Wednesday 11/24/04 so the next person can get it and start sharing his or her life!  If you wish to mail it beforehand, please PM the person you are mailing to and me.  I'm trying to avoid bottlenecking!  The mailing will end when you get your journal back.  This is a long term commitment involving lots of people's time and effort.  All that having been said, I would also like to mention that this is my first time to organize a swap, so if I seem a bit overbearing at the front, it's only because I'm trying to head off problems for everyone (and maybe especially me!)

Pickledkitty just PMed a very good point to me: please be sure that your journal is structurally sound!!!!  Likewise, when you're writing in everyone else's journal, please be careful to not corrupt the structural integrity.  The post office will probably do enough of that for us.

so...you said this would be a long term commitment, but that you would try to keep our groups small. How long of a long term commitment do you expect? Have you scheduled all the mailoff dates yet? And.........one more question: do we have a weight requirement on our journals? Thanks!

awww man........i want to do this soooooo bad!!!!  but my sis won't let me.     says i'm in too many swaps....poo poo on her bald head. <she's not really bald, I just like saying that  >  you HAVE to do another one later!!!  and make sure you all show LOTS of pics!!!  k have to go work on my numerous swaps now.

Hey there Germ@n_chocol@te!  In terms of the length, I think there will end up being about 6 mail off dates.  I haven't scheduled them all yet because sign ups aren't finished yet so I'm not sure how small each group will be.  It will probably be groups of 6-8.  So I'm thinking if the first mail off date is 11/10 and we go every couple of weeks (studying calendar), you would be getting your journal mailed back to you  either January 26, February 9, or February 23 (I think I'm looking at that correctly).  Weight limit - I diudnt' actually have one set.  I guess I was sort of picturing everybody's journals as being around a 6x9 size.  Of course trhey would get heavier during the mailing, but since nobody could put in anything too bulky wihtout it messing up the structural intergrity of the book, I didn't figure they'd get too heavy.  Anybody else want to weigh in with some thoughts?  This is a really good question that I should have thought of sooner.     I'd love it if you could participate, but if things are a bit too hazy on this one, I'll make sure the next swap I do is stricter!!!!

AWWWWW!  Kendaljay!  It's a long-term one, I know, but it's pretty simple!!!!  Just journaling, drawing, recipes, whatever!  You're sister could write in it, too!  Even take a picture to prove she's not bald!     I seriously understand the swap thing, though.  I've actually made a word document now that helps me keep track of the various swaps with their mail out dates, who I mail to, that person's contact info, and interests (if applicable).  If I do another one, I'll definitely PM you so you can take part!
