I know this is a really old thread, but I have a question. On the collar directions, it says: "Work these sts in Seed Stitch as set, then pick up 6 sts along the lower neck edge. (Note: you will not be picking up sts all the way up the neck edge, only in the first 6-8 rows.) 11 sts on needle." The part that gets me is when it tells me that I will be picking up stitches in the first 6-8 rows. So, I am supposed to keep picking up stitches for the next rows? It never actually TELLS me to, it just infers it in the "note."

As I understand it, you will pick up your 6-8 rows, then work the lives sts you have on that sections flat (turn work, then start on next row).  Make sense?
