I was trying to think of some more things, and you know how it is... laying awake at night, trying to go to sleep, and suddenly you get blindsided by an idea? Well, this was one of those moments.

I contemplated putting these in Crochet, but they don't really go there, so I decided to put them here. Hope they're in the right spot!

And now, I present:

Keyboard Key chokers! I popped all the keys off of two keyboards, washed and sanitized them in a little bit of bleach and detergent, then filed down the backs of the keys and drilled holes in the top. The choker bands were made of crochet thread.

Right now I'm also working on a Pirate one, including a painted "Jolly Roger" key. I think these are so neat and unique, so I wanted to share!

Oooh, I love them, they are hilarious!

You should totally make one with a 'Panic' button, or an 'Any' key.  Great job!

Hahahahaha.  You should put those out to the Nerdcore kids.  My brother saw these & was like "one should say 'Wiid'" in reference to an MC Chris song...and of course the system.

cute_anarchy: Ooo, a Panic button and an Any key would be awesome! Thanks for the idea!

runyerpockets77: I've actually never heard the expression "Wiid", but now that I know about it, I probably have to make one. And it doesn't have any E's in it!

Ska Hippie: Thank you very much

Thank you, xstitchdollx! I used size 10 crochet thread, which isn't very thin (which is good, because working on black like that makes my eyes hurt!).

mamamoonie: LOL, thank you. They're pretty easy to make-- pop keys off keyboard, clean keys, file down the back and drill a hole. The choker bands were simple as well really. Glad you like them!

Yeah, I think bracelets are going to have to be next, after I finish my "Etsy Addict" choker and see if I can make the paint stay on the keys a little better.

Don't forget LINUX Grin....something like LINUX > (windows Key) Wink or something....

Although that would end up being a bit unbalanced now that I look at the keyboard...Of course, if you found an old Apple/Mac KB, use the apple key and the windows key.... And it could be done both ways!

Why is it I get ideas, but never use 'em myself?  Roll Eyes

Marvelous.Just.

It makes me think of when I was a freshman in high school, and to piss off my teacher I would take the keys off and switch them around... I don't suggest people do that, but it was quite hilarious.

Anyway! I think I will do this.

This is freaking awesome!  Finally, something to do with all those old 1990's IBM keyboards I have cluttering up my garage.

If I make one (total credit to you, of course!) I'm totally going to do "ctrl" "alt" "del" !!

lmao - this is SO cool!  BF had (hopefully still has a few) tons of keyboards - loads in Spanish language if he hasn't sold them yet - and he keeps asking me if there are crafts to use the keys from them. Well, he'll be tickled when I show him your chokers - he'll now say "I told you so!!!!"  btw: those are the words he would use, too. nerd/geek/propeller head, etc.

(hugs to you!)

OK! I hit up my local Mac repair place and nabbed a dead keyboard, so I'm halfway there. I was hoping you could post the pattern for the yarn part? I really like the way that came out and I'm hoping getting the keys I needed was the hard part.  Smiley

I Love it!

I have a basket with a bunch of keys in it already and a few more half working ones in the garage.

I was trying to think of other things you can spell. How about...

OUT OF CONTROL - with CONTROL being the CONTROL key

Just the HELP key on a denim choker...maybe framed by < and > or followed by "me"

BYTE ME

F16 for your military friends

Shift Apple 3 or Shift Apple 4 for photographers (These are the keys you use to make screen captures on a mac)

There has to be something clever than can be done with the escape key....hummm

verso: For the choker, I used Size 10 cotton crochet thread and a 2.55mm hook (that's what it's marked as, anyway). Ch 152, sc in 2nd ch from hook. 49sc, 5 hdc, 40dc, 4hdc, 50 sc. Then I did two or three sc in that last chain and repeated it working my hook between the posts of the stitches I first did. So, basically, it's 50-50-50, but you could alter it if you need the choker to be longer or shorter. I've also used this to make an "N CTRL" bracelet that had a toggle clasp, and I put the two ends of the toggle clasp on the thread before I began to crochet so I could crochet it in like beads. Works well, since I hate hand-sewing and don't trust my knots! lol.
(p.s. I want a MAC keyboard so bad!)

FineGirl: Thank you very much!

BYA: All of your ideas sound awesome, I'll have to keep them in mind since I'm getting a ton more keyboards. (I use them now for the keys and the circuit sheets inside!). I really like BYTE ME.  Cheesy F16 would be fun too! I might have to make the HELP ME one as well. Too fun, I love it! Thanks for the ideas. I've pulled a bunch more keys for more chokers, bookthongs (PG UP, PG DWN, SCRL LK, and INSERT I think are fun for book thongs), and even earrings. I'm definitely making a CTRL ALT DEL choker.  Wink

Thanks so much for all the nice comments!
