Does anyone know where there are free patterns for retro clothing? Like from the 50's,40's,30's, or 20's? That would be pretty cool.

Here are some patterns for 1930s accessories:

I hesitate to post this since it's not actual patterns, but since someone did ask about '20s clothing and since Halloween is coming up soon with its need for costumes and a lot of women seem to like '20s styles, I decided to go ahead.

Does anyone know where there are free patterns for retro clothing? Like from the 50's,40's,30's, or 20's? That would be pretty cool.

This link has a scanned image from the '20s with some dresses and a couple of tops that each have a line drawing showing the basic shape you'd cut out of your fabric to get it. The shapes are so simple that I think many craftsters could use the diagrams to make their own Twenties costumes. You'd just need to measure the person who'd be wearing it and remember to allow for some wearing ease, hems, and seams when you draw out the pattern shapes.

Here's something I posted in another thread about a similar twenties dress/dressmaking:

If you like 1920s fashion (I don't), the YouTube user sewmarm has up five of what looks as if it'll be a six-part series called "How to Sew a Dress". She's using the One Hour Dress from Mary Brooks Picken, a simple style that is made by measuring directly onto the fabric. The "pattern" can be bought as a pdf file here     or printed out from Amazon here. I consider $17 for a pdf of a public domain pamphlet excessive, so why am I mentioning it here? I think any person on Craftster could, just from watching sewmarm's directions and looking at the pictures on the Amazon link, duplicate this without buying it. Something to remember for your next fancy dress party, if nothing else.

I think I'm in love!  I just found a site with directions for drafting a whole bunch of stuff (from corsets to sleeves).  While it's not patterns, as such, it's definitely a step towards getting some, no matter what size you are.
