I didn't see an official KAL thread, so I decided to start one. (Because god knows I don't already have five million WIPs at the moment.) Anyone with me on this one? I kinda like this one better than Fetching because I think the cabling on Fetching will make my knuckles look monstrous. (I don't have slender, elegant hands =P)

I'm going to use Wisdom Yarns Poems on size 7s, just because I love the colors in #553. I think the gauge will work out.

I almost did, but I lost the fineshed one and had no more yarn for an other so I dicided to frog it...... When I saw this I knew it was her kinda thing. I use red heart teddy in brown on 4,5 circs magice looped.
I'm knew to cables and I didn't get the patten, so I invented sg alike. I'm sure it will be nince as well.

I don't have dainty hands at all (do a lot of carpentry and have wide old-lady knuckles) and I love my fetchings (done about 5-6 pairs now, 3 for myself). I did do the cables every 6 rows instead of every 5, and added several rounds in the hand part - a couple between wrist and thumb, and one or two after the thumb, and maybe 2-4 rounds extra before I bound off, otherwise they would have looked disproportionately short (IMO). Hope you're not put off by that! I can't wait to see your Dashings, the knitty photos are artsy but don't always display what we want to see about the pattern! I may do some of these too... good luck all

Ooh I was thinking of using up some stash yarn to make these! I haven't gotten around to thinking about how to adjust them to my arms though (my wrists are 5.25 inches around) - cast on fewer stitches or use smaller needles?

Neekie - I don't know, since I'm still a novice when it comes to being able to modify patterns and such. I guess I would just say knit a couple gauge swatches? Good luck!

So glad there's a KAL for this.

I finished #1 last week in Albuquerque waiting for my stupid hotel room to be available after being up since 4 am.   Angry

the yarn is Knitpicks Wool of the Andes in Hyacinth and I made the smaller size

Now I just need to start and finish the second...

I finished my first one too!

I made the smaller size, and I guess because of the gauge, it ended up being really long - I only did 12 rows below my thumb and 12 rows above, rather than 24 and 18.

I totally love those colors. I can't stop staring at my Dashing, because it's just so pretty Smiley

More commentary in my blog entry

On to number 2!

What yarn did you use? It's beautiful and uh, I might steal it.

I used Wisdom Yarns Poems in #553. I don't think there's an official site, but I guess they sell it here. (I found it at my LYS.) I definitely want to get more of this stuff in different colorways, because it's so soft and gorgeous.

Hey guys,

I've finally cast on for these, but i must be having a brain freeze.
The pattern says to slip 4 onto cable needle, hold to back, knit 4, purl one, k4 from CN. (i presume p1 at the end).

But the rib round goes k4, p1, k4, p1 - where does that purl 1 go?

what i've ended up doing is slip 5 onto cable needle (k4 and p1), hold to back, k4, p1, then knit the stitche from the CN....

I know how to do cables, but this has me confused....

Hi Dair,

I know, it's confusing. But it actually works, so just go with it. Smiley It has to do with how the knits/purl are split up in the cable. It'll work out, trust me.

Indie-knitter, that's gorgeous! I love the color.

I would so love to try this, but I don't know how to use DPNs. I've tried, but it just becomes a huge, tangled mess. Sad

so i should do the slip 5 then?
i cant figure out how to slip 4, then knit 4 when the next stitch in line is a purl....

Truthfully, it doesn't matter, because I did both, and the difference is minimal. But if you're worried about the slip 4, knit 4, it won't look weird because of the purl, trust me. I think I posted a photo of mine earlier in the thread, so you can take a look at that. The first/bottom-most cable was the slip 5, and all the rest were slip 4 as in the pattern.

I know this is a semi-old KAL, but I made one of these a while back and want to make the other, but my thumb gusset on the first one has a big gap.  Anyone remedy this?
