Cute!  I love Japanese craft books!  It's becoming on addiction.  My mom and sis love taiyaki's--the pastries that are cooked in molded grills and are stuffed with red bean paste.

Was the pattern easy to follow?

Yes, the charted pattern was easy to follow (you can see the donut pattern sample at this blog entry I found).  The purse was  made in 3 pieces - 2 body pieces plus the handle.  The only slightly weird thing was on the tail - crocheting through the posts, if you've never done it before.
