Swap name:  Fill-a-Matchbox Supply Swap R2
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: sewknitter
Sign-up date range: March 19 to March 31 (or until full)
Date to send item by: April 9

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): 48

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? NO
If so, which country?

All ages allowed? Or 18+?  All

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES (already have!  the beautiful: dragonslair is my co-organizer, and already a big help!)

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES

Details of swap:

Fill a teeny-tiny matchbox with teeny-tiny supplies!  Find a matchbox that holds between 30-40 wooden matches and fill it as full as you possibly can with tiny supplies.  You'll be amazed by how much you can fit in it!

You can put anything you want in it, as long as it is a supply for some sort of crafty activity -- beads, paper, ephemera, charms, postage stamps, brads, buttons,  fibers, embellishments, stamped images, stamps, ribbons, stickers, foam shapes, fake flowers, bits, doo-dads, gizmos, whatnots, and whatever else you can think of! If it fits and can be used in a craft, it's fair game.

This time around we are having 3 partners -- you will make a matchbox for each partner, and you will receive a matchbox from each partner.

Decorating the outside of the matchbox is required, inside is optional.

I will be splitting the swap into two groups:  Apples and Oranges.  I will be the organizer for the Apple group, and Dragonslair will be the organizer for the Orange group.  Communication is important -- don't worry about bugging us!  We love our swappers and want to keep up!  If you have any questions or problems, post on the thread or let your organizer know.

Mail Issues:

Make sure to PM your organizer (either sewknitter or Dragonslair) and your partner when you send and when you receive!

For swappers mailing from a point in the US to the US:  Since these packages are so small, DCNs are not required, but they are encouraged.   If you want to get a DCN, mail in a 9x12 envelope and insert a rigid piece of cardboard (this will meet postal requirements for a DCN).  Keep your mail receipt.  If you don't get a DCN and your partner does not receive within two weeks of the date it was sent, you will have to send another package.

For swappers mailing from countries outside the US, or to countries outside the US:  Keep your mail receipt.  If your partner does not receive within two weeks of the date it was sent, you will have to send another package.

If you are going to be late, let your organizer know.  "Mailed late with communication" is more likely to get positive feedback than "Mailed late."

More information about DCNs, found by amaryllisroze:

a. The surface area of the address side of the parcel must be large enough to contain completely and legibly the delivery address, return address, postage, and any applicable markings, endorsements, and extra service labels.

b. Except as provided in 9.2.2c for machinable parcels, the parcel must be greater than 3/4 inch thick at its thickest point.

c. If the mailpiece is a machinable parcel under 401.1.0 and no greater than 3/4 inch thick, the contents must be prepared in a strong and rigid fiberboard or similar container or in a container that becomes rigid after the contents are enclosed and the container is secured. The parcel must be able to maintain its shape, integrity, and rigidity throughout processing and handling without collapsing into a letter-size or flat-size piece.

sewknitter: Even if your box weighs an ounce or less, you need to add 13 cents more postage because of the thickness!!!

If you want to participate, information to send to sewknitter by PM:

Hi, I work during the day, but will be posting all the craftsters who are signed up tonight!

My messages are really filling up! Wow!

In the meantime, I've updated the matchbox template pdf. with TWO sizes of matchboxes, and fit 4 boxes on each page. You can print just the page on fancy paper and have the lines. (print on the wrong side)

This is a LAGRE file, as it also has pictures and folding directions.
http://www.cara4webshopping.com/cara_free/cara_match_box_template.pdf

I created two image/.gif files but haven't uploaded them. So you can use the templates in a paint program.

Any way, I love decorating them almost as much as I love stuffing them!

Be back tonight!

Cara

This sounds great! But I've a question - do we make the matchboxes? Or use empty ones and decorate those? (Or does it not matter?)

I have a lot of African tie-dye fabric (100% cotton) that I need to clear out - contact me if interested, and we can swap for stuff?
I love personal swaps.

couldn't resist checking in! Woohoo! We are filling up already!

I like making my own, as I have tons of card stock. But you can buy matchboxes and decorate them, too.

Rather than say it doesn't "matter," let's say whatever you think would be the most fun for you!
