Hiya!

My husband and I will be moving into our own house in about another year (finally!!!) .. so I need to get crackin on things to make.

He absolutely adores anything classic video games, so I was thinking of doing a video game inspired decor.  If I can make enough things, that will save a lot on costs.

I've got 2 really really ugly end tables, an old computer desk, and 2 chairs right now.  The rest of the stuff for a house, I don't have.

Any ideas on:
~what to get
~what to make
~how to go about making?

I do:
Cross-Stitch
Embroidery
Sewing
Quilting
*BASIC* painting
some stencilling
and I can collage on anything.

Any and all help will be appreciated.
Do ya'll think the Video-Game inspired house is a good idea?

Hey, if you guys like it then it works for you!  You should pick a favorite game and base it on that instead of multiple games, for instance, if you guys like resident evil you could keep everything kind of dark and creepy, go to goodwill and find some old velvety couches etc.  As always I suggest rasterbation- you could look online for clips of games (you know, a frozen scene from a video game) and rasterbate.  Again using the Resident Evil example, make a rasterbation of a zombie getting his head blown off!  Things like that.  I'll keep checking back if you want to bounce some ideas around!

You could use games to chose a colorscheme -- and buy paint. Quickest, cheapest way to get bang for the buck.

Take pictures while you work -- you may be the start of a huge trend. I think it's a cool idea.

I decided that I'm going with Super Mario Brothers.. since that's his favorite. Smiley

I've already got a few ideas for some pillows, and for a quilt or two, but the rest, not quite sure.

I also don't want to go "overboard" hahaha

Maybe use the theme really strong in just one room like the family room. The rest of the house could use colours and styles related to the theme but wouldn't be completely blatant in saying "Welcome to the Mario Brothers house".  Wink
The colours are very primary in that game right? You might end up with a crayon box house, (yellow kitchen, red living room, orange dining room etc.) which can be very dynamic and exciting (I love colour) but for some people can be hard to live with, and they end up getting "burnt out" on the colours. Use a strong neutral (black, gray, gray-taupe) with the brights to balance it out.
One word about yellow (if you want to use it)- it has the highest light reflection quality of all the colours, that means that when you put it on the wall it will reflect on itself from the other walls and increase exponentially in brightness, a nice yellow on a little paint chip may look fluorescent on the wall.
Good Luck, it sounds so exciting!
I have many years of paint store/decorating experience, let me know if you have any questions Smiley

It's a nice clear palate, though. You could end up with a house saying, "Beinvenue Chez Mario Freres" -- much more chic Wink

 Cheesy Ha!
Ya, done right it could be wonderfully chic.
Shouldn't "maison" be in that sentance somewhere?  Cool

I believe  "chez" is "house of"

I also believe my French spelling is pretty merde-y.

Au Revoir!

I think that's what I'll go for, the colors in the house, but the decor in one or two key rooms. Smiley

I was thinking of embroidering the Mario characters on towels for the bathroom
