ok, I drew up a simple little diagram in paint for ya.
I think this is the easiest way to get the most ATC's from one 12x12 sheet and have the least "scrap", but someone else might have a better way.
this yields 16 ATCs.

And here is a great way to get the most ATC's out of a letter sized piece of cardstock.
