I won't lie, I'm pretty pleased with this one.

I call it the Red Monstrosity

It's not practical or wearable (mostly because it weighs nearly ten pounds, and partially because it's very short for me!) but it make a neat piece o' fiber art.

Ok guys, I'm going to attempt to explain how I did it. It's deceptively simple, I swear.

First step! Take a t-shirt (XL-2X) and cut it as though you are taking a print off the front (the shirts I was using had an ugly santa head on them, I had to remove it) Also take off the sleeves, and save these as stuffing for later.

STEP TWO!  (not pictured because I am dumb) Gather the bottom edge (hem) of the t-shirt. You could sew it, I just used a strip of scrap fabric and tied it.
STEP THREE: This should make a pocket in the shirt. Fill this pocket with the rest of the shirt that you cut off.
STEP FOUR: Run a line of stitches across the back of the 'pocket' and gather them.

STEP FIVE: Split the 'neck' of the pocket-pod-thing into 3 equal parts.
STEP SIX: Braid these parts together.

REPEAT 16X or however many you need.
STEP SEVEN: Painstakingly hand-sew each of your sixteen 'pods' together. Add straps (you'll need them!)

Fan freaking tastic.  It's beautiful.  Did you do it for a class or something?  Or just on a whim for yourself?
I adore this.  Hands down. Grin

I can tell you, Fall is composed of

1 part dead fish smell
1 part wet leaves
1 part arctic chilled air (not winter chilled variety)
2 parts crunchy walking
a pinch very cold rain
some apples you picked yourself
a few very still moments
a good deal of inner reflection

I lurve it! It's so freakin' cool. I want it. Like, now. Or maybe a tutorial pretty please? -puppydog eyes-

ETA: I saw the semi-tut you put on t shirt bitchery and wanted to say thanks! How did you manage to sew the braids together? Cause they look a little thick. I'm gonna have to go find 16 XXL t-shirts somewhere now...hehe. Seriously though, -clicks "This Rocks"-, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this.

Oh, and the shoes are hot too  Grin

P.S.

Where did you get all those tshirts?
