This is my firstest large mixed media piece that I've done. I've been making collages for quite awhile, but not on this scale. It's for a 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' art show, here in Fort Worth this month. All of the materials used are from someone else's trash can, scrap bin, or junk drawer, except for the framing (and the paints and glues).

--Background was another painting (on canvas). I layered torn foreign newspapers (from PJMCLNJ), French book pages (from AlteredMommy), dictionary pages (from Phizzychick) and paper towels onto the entire canvas, then glazed in the background color for the tree, grass and sky over that.
--The tree is mostly scraps of fabric, ribbon, and string, (from RecycleMicol and Naelany and Katxena).
Grass is fabric scraps from my sewing trash and RM's.
--Flowers are purple bubble wrap (packing material from a swap) and purple measuring tape (from Alwaysinmyroom).
--Sun is a gold doily with a magazine babie's face, I drew over it and then applied gold glitter glue.
--Sky is textured with pieces of baby blue lace (you really can't see it on the pictures) from my mom's sewing scraps, and the wind/clouds is white tuile, another scrap from RecycleMicol.
--The girl herself. Book page hat (from Phizzychick) with a metal '3' stencil on it, face is a Mona Lisa magazine pic (from RecycleMicol (RM) ) I drew over it and used sharpies and 3 thick coats of modpodge. Arms are magazine scraps, dress is red fabric from RM, Legs are selvage edges from old fabric and the shoes are black denim, another RM scrap. The whole body is glued to the thick cardboard of a taquitos box.
Wings are silver and gold mesh Christmas ribbon from RM. Buttons are from mom's bin (3 different ones). Red rick rack (on the bottom of her dress to cover her 'leg' brads) from my sewing scraps.
--She hangs (arms and feet) from thin pieces of wire, on cut pieces of old paint sticks. The frame is made from wooden 12" rulers, painted black.
--Her body is anchored on her dress to the canvas, but the arms, legs, head, and feet are attached with brads, so they can move. They are anchored to the top piece by wire, like a Marionette.
Anyhow, I know the pics aren't great and you can't really see the color, but thanks for viewing (and commenting) as well as triple thanks to those of you who sent me some good junk! Hopefully it will sell at the gallery night (March 31st) or I'll at least get some new customers for my business. I doubt I'll be working like this much though, my kitchen has been a disaster all week with all the scraps lying about!
The bestest part is that I only bought ONE thing, the rulers....everythin
g else was just lying around the house. The rulers cost me $2.00 (for 2 packs of 4 rulers at my $1 store).
