Here's a photo of some flower pins that made out of necktie tips.  The center is a 1&1/8-inch covered button.  I hope you like them.

These are great.  Now I wish I had grabbed that big bag of ties for $3 at the thrift store the other day.  It didn't have any ties in the colors I needed, so I left it.  Maybe I'll have to go back tomorrow night and see if it's still there.

Hi girls,

Thanks so much for your interest in my designs.  Here is how to make a necktie daisy.

You'll need six tie tips, one 1&1/8-inch button-to-cover, one small piece of interfacing, one scrap of necktie silk for center, one 1.25-inch pinback, one 1.25 inch circle of black velveteen or felt, needle, strong thread, scissors, measuring tape.

First - the petals are made from the small tips of the ties.  Cut six tips about 2 inches long and gather them up by hand with a strong thread.

Leave the petals on the thread while you prepare a 1 & 1/8-inch covered button.  I use a scrap of necktie silk for the button but it's a little too thin so I back it with a layer of interfacing.  This makes it perfect.  Just get a package of the buttons-to-cover in the notions dept. of your fabric store.  If you haven't used these before, be sure to purchase the "starter set" that includes the rubber form and the "pusher."   Follow the instructions on the back of the package for the button.

Now stitch the button to the center of your gathered petals.  Distribute the petals evenly around the button.

I add a small circle of black velveteen to cover the gathers on the back and then I stitch on a 1 & 1/4-inch pinback to make this into a pin.

All done!  YAY!!!!

That's awesome, I made a tie purse, but only used the fat ends. I've been wondering what to do with the skinny ends, AND I've been wanting to make some flower pins. You, my friend, are a genius and I love you forever!
