I'm a knitter, not a jewelry maker, but my lovely Mom has been getting into beads and I'd like to set her up with a jewelry making kit for her birthday next month.  What do ya'll think are the important tools and stuff to include?  Right she's just doing individual strands of beads - mainly bracelets - and I'd love to see her branch out to earings and some cool necklaces.

Thanks so much for your help!  Smiley

Some basics that I would include. I would buy all the findings in either silver or silver plate, especially if your mum has any sort of metal allergies.

1)earring hooks
2)tiger tail wire, or something similar; maybe some of the stretchy cord for making bracelets?
3)crimp beads
4)some headpins
5)a goodly amount of wire, in a smallish gague (ie the same gague as a the headpins), if she wants to make earrings
6)a lovely assortment of beads, of course!
7)some split rings and some (what do you call them?) unsplit rings (ha!  The rings that don't have a break in them)
8)a notepad and pencil for artistic doodles and planning

Jewelry Tools (if she doesn't already have them):
1)a pair of round nose pliers
2)a pair of needle nose pliers
3)a pair of flush side cutters

I'm sure there's more, i just can't think of any more basics right now.

Making your mum a jewelry starter kit is such a sweet idea!

Thank you!  That's a great list and exactly what I needed.  Smiley
