They are truly great.  Not only are they a wonderful toy but they look amazing as decoration when they are not being played with.  Don't change a thing!

Wonderful! I can see any little girl loving this and it's so pretty so can be displayed when not being played with - perfect.

I agree with everyone - this is lovely! I think it is fine the way it is, however, knowing that toddlers love to take things apart, I agree with Angry Angel - the hatching eggs would definitely add play value (and also make it a kind of "learning toy")!

Whatever you decide to do, it is a lovely and thoughtful gift.

It is lovely and a perfect gift.  Maybe your sister pictured traditional baby primary colors or girly pinks and florals instead of the gorgeous nest you created.

I love the birds. Cheesy  I think they are beautiful and a great toy.  Eggs would be a great addition, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I think there's something that hasn't been considered about your sister's reaction:

My son has very few toys with electronic parts.  I have had 2 and 3 year old children come into my house to play, find the 3-4 toys that make noise, play with them for about 5 minutes and then look around and ask "what else goes?"

It makes me so sad that these kids can't concieve of a way to play with a toy that doesn't have built in sound effects.

Was your sister not impressed because you've done better work, or was she not impressed because she thinks the store-bought, electronic toys are more fun?

Honestly, she looked at it and asked what was it for? I thought it was obvious it was a toy, considering I told her who the gift was for. I guess really I showed it to the wrong person. She has np appreciation for the kind of stuff I do. Thanks for all the kind comments. I think I'm gonna make a few more sets for my nieces, they were so much fun to make

These are gorgeous! They'd make a great toy and are a lovely ornament/sculpture too.

I think this is a great children's gift to go with a book with bird characters like maybe Are You My Mother?.  That's the one where Mama Bird leaves the nest and little bird gets scared and asks all over about his Mother.
