those are beautiful - but I am now having nightmare flashbacks of my mother going through her blown egg time - and serving us scrambled eggs.  It always grossed me out  Cheesy
Now that I am older I would love to blow out some eggs so I can have the shells.. I was just thinking about that the other day and decided I would just grow the egg gourds instead - I don't want my kids thinking the same thing when they see mommy blowing the guts out of an egg and then cooking it up for them - they are not too keen on eggs to begin with!

I was cooking some black beans and found that if you drop an egg in the liquid, with or with out the beans, the eggs turn a deep purple, indigo color. The longer the better. Follow the dried beans directions and let the eggs go. Vinegar will keep the eggs from cracking.
Try other foods that color the water to see what you get. Refer to Native American dying materials for natural resources like your back yard, park or hikeing path.
Also try using old funky dried herbs. Glue the herbs to the egg. Stencil an area for a specific color or texture. Like you would do with glitter. Think of the rich reds of ground paprika, the browns of nutmeg and the greens of oregano, rosemary, or thyme. Go nutty!! Seal with a matte or if you prefer a gloss clear coat. They will last for many years. You could blow the eggs out and keep forever.
I have thoght to try using gorilla glue to fill the eggs with for weight and sturdiness. Haven't tried it. The point is that it foams up and fills the cavity. It will also break the egg if there is too much. Try a few before you get excited about decorating. The insulation is also an option,. but again I have not tried this stuff and it comes out in force.
Hope you enjoy my thoughts.

We did ours today and this is how they turned out after just 15 minutes boiling. I thought the kid would have trouble with the lack of instant gratification, but I was the one who couldn't wait overnight.
