Hey Everyone,

My lucky friends are headed on a girl's trip to Mexico and I wanted them to remember me so I put on my craft cap and this is what I came up with.  I've decided felt is mostly evil to embroider but I got the shoe fixer guy to put in the eyelets for me and he rocks!  I put a laminated address card on the inside.

They attach easily with plastic cable ties from the dollar store.

Hope you like them!

they are darling! you did such a great job. but why is felt so evil to embroider on? i've never tried it. i was going to start a new project embroidering on felt, but now i may be rethinking that. can you give me some insight in that?   Smiley

My problem with felt is that it has no give.  I need to be able to push against the fabric and have it move back into place.  The few things I've done with felt, I've found the only stitch I really like the look of on felt is the back stitch and that you have to make one stitch down and one stitch up and one stitch down and one stitch up, etc.  I'm used to making my down and back up in the same motion, so felt takes twice as much time for me to do.

Thanks!  It was fun to pick out designs for each of them.

The black one was the hardest because the transfer paper in white doesn't seem to stay on and the silver fabric pencil I have pulled the fabric too much.

bratygril1 - Felt vs regular cotton has these disadvantages:  it doesn't take being unstitched well due to it's fuzzy nature, it doesn't take fabric pencils well because it can't be pulled on without damaging it's structure, and it doesn't hold transfer paper designs as well I think again due to it's fuzzy nature.  That being said there are different thickness and qualities of felt.  The green was more stable than the red.

My advice is to look for a color that will work with an iron-on design and a felt that is relatively smooth surfaced.  The only stitch I really hated on it was the chain stitch but I find that challenging on regular fabric too.  Best of luck!  EM
