I made these recently for the Doctor Who swap.

I'd been meaning to make a Dalek for ages, ever since I rediscovered crochet, there's just something about a mean exterminating machine being turned into a cuddly toy that's irresistable. Now I have to make one for myself, my kids and all my fan friends!

I was really pleased at how the Tom Baker doll came out, I've never made a doll before, or done hair. He sat in my sitting room looking all cute and it was all I could do to send him to my partner!

Thanks for all the nice comments! They both took a few days to make, that's usually just evenings when I get the chance to crochet. I wrote down what I did for the Dalek, but some of it was by eye, like deciding where to put the bobbles, so a pattern might be hard to write. I will try to put something together though.

AMAZING Shocked I loved the Dalek. I remember watching Dr who faithfully. (loved the theme music) You did a great job. right down to the scarf. Did you use a pattern or wing it. I bow down to your talent.

Cool Dalek!
Brings back memories of watching Dr Who [Tom Baker]. The Daleks were a bit single-minded and irritating. Never did think of crocheting one though. Kudos!

Wow, those are amazing. I'd love to make up a dalek for my fiance, we're huge Tom Baker/Doctor Who fans, in fact he proposed by putting the question in the closing credits of the last Tom Baker episode (Logopolis I believe).

This is so awesome, you rock at making super cute things!

These are completely amazing! I remember trying to bribe my friends to let me watch Dr. Who at their houses because we didn't have a T.V. at my house. My daughter and her friend are completely addicted to the new series now so I finally have someone to watch it with!
I'd love a tutorial if you can pull it off. I understand about eyeballing stuff  and not remembering exactly how you did it though.

Actually, I made a crocheted Tardis box as part of the swap. I never took pictures of it as I was finishing it up to the last minute, but here it is in the swap gallery: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=155124.10

I've finished a couple more Daleks now, a black one for my friend and a brown new series one for a personal swap.

The black one has a voice box in the head that says 'Exterminate' when you press it (it came from a Dalek birthday cake). It made it hard to stuff the head properly, so it's a little out of proportion.

I have been writing down what I'm doing, so I will try to post some kind of pattern/tutorial soon.

Thanks! I really must post up a pattern of this - maybe the new series of Doctor Who will inspire me. Starstuff, I love your Dalek, he still looks more cuddly than a Dalek would want to be!
