A Sprinkling of Baby Hats

I've decided to make baby hats for the local hospital. My goal is to donate at least ten each month starting with March, although I crocheted these last month. I've been trying several different patterns, as well as different kinds of yarns, in an attempt to see what works up fast and easy, but still looks adorably cute. So far, these are what has resulted:

I'm also working on getting them sized for both newborn and preemies.

I've tried a few patterns that I didn't like as well, so those hats never got finished. So far, I think I like the blue and pink ones best. Although, I do have a green one with matching booties that is by far my favorite. I want a "model" for the set, so I won't take pictures until I get a doll to dress (which I'm currently on the search for). Sounds silly, probably, but with a new baby coming into the family in August (my SO's daughter), I want to have a few items under my belt.

Those look great and so adorable!!  I'm especially partial to the pink one with white flower and can just picture a newborn baby girl wearing that sweet hat. Awwww!  What a great way to donate your skills and time to such a great cause and you'll probably actually meat that goal with your 10 hats/ month goal.  Way to go! 

What sizes do you normally make your hats?  I freehand my pattern as well and have been meaning to make some baby hats for some friends, but I never know what sizes to make for 0 - 6 months and 1-2 years.

For the newborn sizes, I shoot for anywhere between 13 & 15 inches. I don't remember what size I make the preemies; I'm thinking it was about 8-10. I haven't made any bigger than that, and I'm not sure the size for 1-2 years. There's a chart online somewhere, but I'll have to check my other computer to see if I can find it.

Too, I didn't freehand all of those patterns. Some I altered the pattern I had to suit my needs though.

Those are adorable, and I do like them all The blue one looks very classy, and the yellow one is very...hospital haha. The pink one's just cute And girly! I was thinking of making one of these myself, and I didn't know how I would make the right size but there you go - a doll Thank you for that tip! An average newborn head is 13-15 inches around, while a preemie's is much smaller but I can't remember the circumference offhand. Hope that helps some!

I've been trying to get things to the Children's Hospital as well, but just keep getting side tracked. Kudos to you for your charity work!
